There’s another message in the John Lewis Christmas advert.
The old, White grandmother is made to feel out of touch with her traditional gifts.
She’s encouraged to modernise and discard her traditional ideas and values.
Instead, she is rewarded for giving in to her ethnically ambiguous grandchildren’s modern and materialistic ways.
It’s a very sinister advert.

The Plot:
- Entitled children ignore their Grandmother, won't even hug her
- She tries to give them nice, simple, meaningful toys to play with, they ignore her
- She goes to John Lewis to buy expensive toys
- The kids now love her

Totally agree. It’s possibly the worst advert I’ve ever seen for anything. Would actively dissuade me from going to @JohnLewisRetail - what on earth were they thinking?
I can’t express how much I hate this John Lewis advert. Spoilt entitled, rude and overindulged children. Useless, weak parents. Terrible mauling of the Rolling Stones.
