Keeping our children safe is one of our most important responsibilities. Every child deserves to grow up free from abuse, exploitation, and those who seek to harm them. These operations are about more than making arrests. They’re about identifying threats, preventing harm, and protecting vulnerable children. Online predators don’t recognize jurisdictional boundaries, and that’s why teamwork and collaboration among law enforcement agencies are so important. By working together, sharing information, and combining resources, we can make a greater impact. I’m grateful to our dedicated investigators and our partners on the Houston-Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Much of their work happens behind the scenes, but it makes a real difference. Protecting our children takes all of us. Let’s stay vigilant, look out for one another, and keep working together to keep our kids safe. 💙

I love seeing how some of our beautiful traditions continue to live on, generation after generation. During recent visits to local favorites like La Mexicana and Puebla’s Mexican Kitchen, I noticed some beautiful Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) altars. What makes these altars so special is that they’re much more than decorations. Every photo, candle, flower, and offering has a special meaning. For many Mexican families, they’re a way to remember loved ones, celebrate their lives, and keep their memories close. And while traditions may differ from family to family, the love and memories we carry for those who came before us are something we can all relate to. It’s a beautiful reminder of the importance of family, honoring those who shaped our lives, and passing meaningful traditions on to the next generation. Because the people we love never really leave us as long as we keep their memories alive. 🏵️💀🏵️ #DiaDeLosMuertos #DayOfTheDead #HonoringLovedOnes #Ofrenda

Community Advisory - Intimate Partner Violence Investigation On Tuesday night, October 20, @HCSOTexas deputies responded to a disturbance in the 300 block of Highlands Cross Drive. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a significant amount of blood leading into an apartment. Deputies forced entry and discovered two deceased dogs with apparent gunshot wounds and a butcher knife. Around the same time, deputies learned that a woman had arrived at a nearby hospital suffering from multiple stab wounds. Detectives connected the two incidents and identified the woman’s former boyfriend as the alleged attacker. While deputies were at the hospital, the suspect arrived and was detained. Johan Caballero (DOB: 12-30-2007) was subsequently arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault–Family Violence, Violation of a Protective Order, and Animal Cruelty. He was booked into the Harris County Jail. Our Domestic Violence and Animal Cruelty units are working jointly on this investigation. Domestic violence is a serious and potentially deadly threat. The intersection of domestic violence and animal cruelty is particularly troubling, as violence against pets can also be used to intimidate, threaten, or control victims. We remain committed to protecting victims, holding offenders accountable through the justice system, and intervening before violence escalates. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available. Contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). In an emergency, call 911. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. #DomesticViolenceAwareness #HouNews

What a gorgeous morning! There’s always something to do, somewhere to be, and something new to learn. But mornings like this remind us that it’s also okay to slow down, take it all in, and appreciate the little things. What a beautiful way to welcome a brand-new week! Wishing everyone a terrific Monday and a wonderful week ahead! ☕️😊👋🏽

Update: The deceased man has been identified as 36-year-old Jarmon Mattix. Detectives have identified the individuals involved in the shooting and are conducting follow-up interviews. It’s heartbreaking when an evening of recreation and fellowship ends in tragedy. We have to do better at managing disagreements without resorting to violence. Walking away from a confrontation can save lives. #HouNews
Community Advisory Last night, @HCSOTexas deputies responded to a reported shooting at a neighborhood sports complex in the 19400 block of Fall Creek View Drive. Preliminary information indicates that two groups were participating in a softball game when an argument broke out among participants. The dispute later escalated in the parking lot, where gunfire erupted, striking four individuals. Tragically, an adult male in his 30s was pronounced deceased at the scene. Three additional victims, two females and one male, sustained gunshot wounds and are expected to survive. Our Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene and are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident. No charges have been filed at this time. Based on preliminary information, this appears to be an isolated incident involving individuals at the complex, and detectives do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the surrounding community. What should have been an evening of recreation and friendly competition ended in senseless violence and heartbreak. Our condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased, and we pray for the full recovery of those injured. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the HCSO Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100 or @CrimeStopHOU at 713-222-TIPS (8477). #HouNews

Closing out a wonderful Saturday evening at Lena’s Asian Kitchen with founder and Chef Lena Le and her husband, Hoan. Lena is an incredibly talented chef, a Chopped champion, and has appeared on Beat Bobby Flay. But what impressed me most is her heart for helping others. Nearly half of her staff are survivors of domestic violence, and she’s creating opportunities for healing, empowerment, and new beginnings. We enjoyed incredible cuisine, meaningful conversation, and explored potential partnerships to further support her foundation and the survivors she serves. Grateful for people like Lena and Hoan, who remind us that a successful business can also be a powerful force for good. 💜👏🏽
