The sound of silence. In less than four decades more than 80% of #kittiwakes breeding on the Norwegian mainland have disappeared. The coast has fallen silent. Historical and current photos side by side illustrate the dramatic declines👇 See more here: nina.no/Om-NINA/Aktuelt/Stor…

Still winter in Norway, but #kittiwakes are moving into our artificial nesting structure in Rørvik 🥰. The structure was made by Nærøysund municipality, to compensate for deterrence of kittiwakes in other parts of the town. @NinaDehnhard, @bksandercock @NINAforskning

Calling out to people working on seabirds breeding on offshore oil installations I would really like to get in touch with people working on the topic. I seem to remember projects shared on twitter, but can't refind tweets🤦‍♀️ Thanks 🙂

Hold fast to dreams For if dreams die Life is a broken-winged bird That cannot fly. Hold fast to dreams For when dreams go Life is a barren field Frozen with snow. (Langston Hughes, 1901-1967)

We want to photo-document movement of gulls around fishing vessels during the polar night…. A lot of gulls (up to 1000 + )… In the dark… The idea would be 1 photo every sec. or video. Any good suggestions for IR/thermal systems that could work?

A #puffling from #Runde facing the outside world. Soon it will fledge, but hopefully we will see it back as a breeding adult some years from now. Safe travels little one 💙 @NINAforskning @SEAPOP4 📷 Ingar Støyle Bringsvor

I've seldom been so happy to get attacked by a seemingly healthy breeding great skua at Runde, Norway. So far no dead #skuas observed there, but low number of birds present in the colony. Fingers crossed the colony will be spared a #HPAI outbreak. @NINAforskning @SEAPOP4
