Builder Night Recap | Xiao Zhanyang: From Solving Everyday Friction to Building Tape XO By the end of an interview, what stays with us is often more than a list of products. It’s the question that started it all: Why build this in the first place? For the second edition of Builder Night, we invited developer Xiao Zhanyang to talk about spotting problems in the Tapeout ecosystem, building tools to address them, and improving those tools through user feedback. From a project directory and container tools to the giveaway product Tape XO, each began with a practical need. Here’s a recap of our conversation about building, listening, and refining products. ⸻ 01. Building Tools, One Problem at a Time Xiao noticed that as the Tapeout ecosystem grew, it became harder to keep up with new applications, project updates, and tools. He built a directory to bring applications, project milestones, and development plans together. He continued to build around everyday frictions. Setting up a Deweb site, for example, required users to prepare and activate a container—a process that could be challenging for newcomers who simply wanted to get a site online. Xiao built a tool to simplify that process. He also created a Deweb directory and browser extension to make related sites easier to find and access. A common idea runs through these projects: when information is scattered, bring it together; when a process is complicated, simplify it; when access is difficult, create a better entry point. As an ecosystem grows, new needs emerge—and developers can use their technical skills and AI tools to build solutions more quickly. 02. Launch Is Only the Beginning During the interview, Xiao talked about what happens after a product goes live. It’s important to launch quickly, but then comes the work of paying attention: * Where are users getting stuck? * What could be simpler? * Which features do people actually need? The container tool is one example. A process that once required several steps was gradually streamlined into a one-click action. Page loading was also improved: by scanning and caching existing data in advance, the tool reduced the wait from around one or two minutes to just a few seconds. The directory continued to evolve, too. As updates became more frequent, Xiao added a news feed that automatically gathers relevant posts and summarizes them. Other features came directly from user suggestions. Whether people actually use a feature also helps guide what to improve next. 03. Tape XO: Making Giveaway Results Easier to Verify The conversation then turned to Tape XO. Xiao began building it after questioning how fair X giveaways could be when participants couldn’t see how winners were selected. If an organizer simply announces a winner, it can be hard to know how the result was reached or whether someone was favored. Tape XO aims to make the draw process more transparent. Participants can open an event link, sign in with X, and follow the entry requirements, such as following or reposting. The flow described in the interview does not require participants to connect a wallet. Organizers can set the prize, number of winners, and draw date, as well as eligibility criteria such as account activity or ownership of a specified token. The interview also covered a feature for drawing winners from giveaways already posted on X. Tape XO can compile the participant list, filter eligible accounts, and publish records of the random number generation, list ordering, eligibility checks, and draw. Making the process public makes it easier to review, though it cannot eliminate every form of abuse. 04. Turning Feedback into Product Improvements After Tape XO launched, users began pointing out places where the experience could be clearer. Some organizers found it difficult to link their X post to a newly created event, so the product added step-by-step guidance, a video, and a manual. Participants wanted to see which events they had entered, leading to a personal page and participation history. A filter was also added to address multiple accounts entering with the same wallet. These improvements came from specific feedback during real use. As Xiao noted, one developer can’t anticipate every user’s needs. When people use a product and share what could be better, they give its creators a chance to make it more useful. 05. Early Traction and What Comes Next Xiao shared that around 10 days after launch, Tape XO had hosted: * 56 events * 18,749 total entries * 6 users who had hosted more than once He also mentioned paid features, including higher participation limits and event analytics. These figures and details reflect the time of the interview. For now, most Tape XO activity comes from within the Tapeout community. Xiao hopes to reach organizers beyond it and is planning easier ways to create events and run draws, so organizers can use Tape XO to document and publish results for giveaways started on X. 06. What We Took Away From the directory to Tape XO, the process has been much the same: identify a real need, build something to address it, and keep improving it based on how people actually use it. Xiao’s advice to developers reflects that experience: don’t build something just because it sounds useful. First make sure the problem exists, think through who the product is for and how it could be sustainable, then keep working to make it better. By the end of the conversation, we were talking about more than Tape XO or the number of tools one developer had built. A builder solves a problem they’ve encountered; users bring back the next set of problems; and, through that exchange, a product gradually takes shape. ⸻ Thank You for Joining Us Thank you to Xiao Zhanyang for sharing the experiments and lessons behind his work, and to everyone who joined, asked questions, and contributed to the discussion. We hope this recap helps those who missed the interview get to know the builder and the problems he’s working on. See you at the next Builder Night. @xiaozhanyangx — SIMAN LABS

Builder Night Recap | Xing Shuai: Making Tapeout Easier to Understand—and Turning Shared Belief into Action At the start of the conversation, Xing Shuai said he likes “holding meetings”—bringing people together to talk about new projects, exchange ideas, and explore why something is worth building. It was a telling introduction. In the Tapeout community, he doesn’t just share information; he also hopes to build a bridge between technical builders and a wider group of participants. For the first edition of Builder Night, we spoke with community builder Xing Shuai for over an hour. We discussed his long-term perspective on the crypto industry, what led him to commit to Tapeout, what he hopes Tap Meet can achieve, and how a community can keep building after the initial excitement fades. The conversation covered both his vision for the technology and the everyday work of bringing people together. ⸻ 01. Observe First, Then Decide to Get Involved Xing first entered the crypto space around 2016 and has seen many projects rise and gradually lose momentum. Having witnessed several market cycles, he didn’t join Tapeout as soon as he heard about it. Instead, he chose to observe for a while. What first caught his attention was Tapeout’s approach to circuits and computation. He tends to start by understanding a project’s underlying logic: What is it trying to do? What might it make possible beyond existing smart contracts? At the time, he saw potential in the idea, but also wondered whether its technical complexity would make it difficult for the community to build a shared understanding. What changed his mind was seeing people continue to develop applications and experiment with new ideas after the first wave of excitement. To him, that suggested people were doing more than chasing short-term attention; some were willing to keep building. He decided to get more involved and see whether the ecosystem could grow into new applications and a lasting community. 02. How He Sees Tapeout: Making Computation Observable During the interview, Xing shared his own perspective on Tapeout. He compared it with familiar smart contracts, explaining that, in his understanding, Tapeout is built around circuits and transistors, offering different ways to combine components and making the observability of computation a direction worth exploring. He connected this question to the rise of AI. Many systems produce an answer, but the computation behind it can be difficult to inspect. Xing believes that if important computational processes can be recorded and traced, this could open up new possibilities for applications where verification matters. This is his personal view of Tapeout’s potential and part of why he continues to contribute to the community. The conversation presented these ideas as a vision to explore, rather than outcomes that have already been achieved. 03. Tap Meet: Bringing Technical Conversations to More People Xing describes himself as a kind of “bard” in the Tapeout community. The phrase reflects his personality, but also captures how he sees Tap Meet: while technical builders explore and develop, he hopes to make their work easier to understand through conversations, AMAs, and project showcases. Tap Meet is therefore more than a series of events. It is a way to connect people: giving builders a chance to explain what they’re working on, letting community members hear different perspectives, and creating opportunities for discussions to lead to collaboration or further work. Xing hopes the ecosystem can grow in a way that gives people with different skills a place to contribute. 04. Community Building Means Bringing People Together—and Listening Xing also spoke about the less visible side of community work. Beyond organizing events and sharing content, it involves understanding what members are thinking, explaining why people remain committed through uncertain periods, and working through disagreements. He shared an instance where he didn’t handle a situation well. After hearing concerns about a project, he misread the intent behind one member’s post and quickly removed them from a group. He later realized that the person still supported Tapeout. Xing recognized that he had judged too quickly without first letting them explain, and he apologized. That story made the idea of “building consensus” more concrete. Community building means giving people a chance to explain themselves and understanding why people at different stages may have different concerns. Acknowledging a mistake and correcting it is part of the work, too. 05. What Is Worth Keeping After the Hype? When asked how a community can make it through cycles of excitement, Xing described a difference he sees in what people talk about. In some places, conversations during a hot market period center mostly on prices and short-term market moves. In the Tapeout community, he also sees people discussing technology, developing applications, creating designs, and looking for ways to collaborate. To him, community members bring more than funding or attention. They also contribute technical research, creativity, design sensibility, and a willingness to act. What lasts after the excitement fades is whether people still have meaningful work to do, whether they want to keep creating, and whether they can find others to build with. 06. Supporting an Ecosystem Starts with Recognizing Its Builders When asked what ecosystem supporters can do, Xing gave a direct answer: find talented people with ideas—especially builders who can turn those ideas into products that address real needs—and support them in carrying the work forward. Some people research the technology, some develop applications, and others share information or connect people. Xing believes an ecosystem needs more than funding or visibility. It also needs these different abilities to connect, so promising ideas have a chance to be put into practice. 07. What We Took Away The conversation returned to a simple question: When the initial excitement passes, will people still want to stay and build together? Xing believes that ongoing technical exploration, new projects, and human connection can give a community a life beyond short-term hype. Tap Meet aims to help more people hear about that work, understand what builders are doing, and find ways to participate. Thank you to Xing Shuai for sharing his perspective, enthusiasm, and an honest moment of reflection—and to everyone who joined, asked questions, and took part in the conversation. We hope this recap helps those who missed the session get to know this community builder and the role he plays in the Tapeout ecosystem. See you at the next Builder Night. @xing8047
