quick update: i'm safe now. thank you to everyone who reached out and checked in on me.
@Uber has contacted me and confirmed that the driver has been barred from the platform and won't be able to take rides anymore. i've also filed an FIR against him.
thank you to everyone who helped get this noticed. really appreciate it.

i landed at delhi airport today and had one of the most terrifying experiences of my life with an uber driver. i'm still shaken.
i booked an uber to gurgaon for a 20-minute ride. the fare shown on my uber app was around ₹625. after the trip, the driver showed me a screenshot from rapido quoting ₹1,479 and demanded that i pay that amount instead. when i pointed out that this was a rapido screenshot and not an uber screenshot, he said, “iss route ka itna hi hota hai.”
i paid the ₹625 that was shown on my uber app. what followed was genuinely frightening.
he locked the car and refused to let me take my luggage out unless i paid ₹1,479. when i tried retrieving my belongings, he held my arm and shut the front-seat window where my luggage was, trying to stop me from taking it out.
i somehow managed to get my luggage and tried to enter my house. he followed me, forced the gate, abused me horribly and wouldn't let me go inside peacefully. i finally managed to get inside and lock the door. he then started climbing the gate while hurling abuses and threatening my life.
all of this happened around 4:45 am in gurgaon, when i'd just landed and was simply trying to get home safely.
and it gets worse. i'm trying to reach uber's safety support, and the safety support option isn't available to me. i'm dealing with a terrifying situation involving physical aggression and life threats, and i can't even get through to the platform's safety team.
this wasn't a fare dispute anymore. this was intimidation, physical aggression and a terrifying violation of my safety at my own doorstep.
@Uber_Support @Uber_India @UberIN_Support @Uber, i need an urgent human response, a proper investigation and concrete action. please preserve the trip and driver records and tell me how this is being addressed.
i've used cabs to get around in different countries and never imagined i'd feel this unsafe trying to get home in my own country. how am i supposed to trust a service that i booked specifically to get home safely?

All of the AirBnB drama boils down to the fact that hosts are running a >>norm arbitrage scheme to get better margin<<:
Hosts deliberately conflate two sets of norms:
1) socially, you're a treasured friend/family who tidies up after himself.
2) commercially, you're a customer who paid for housekeeping.
As a paying guest, you get the obligations of the first and the invoice of the second.
It has always bugged me. No bueno.

Disappointed with @Swiggy! I’m deaf and cannot speak on calls. The delivery partner ignored my messages, my order was cancelled without my consent, and ₹189 cancellation fee was charged. No refund received! Please investigate and resolve this fairly.

The big disconnect on Airbnb cleaning requirements stems from a bunch of ‘hosts’ who got sold a passive income real estate owner dream & found out hospitality is the reality.
Asking a guest [paid or unpaid] to take the trash out and strip the linens off the beds is terribly gauche.

Then don’t charge a cleaning fee Ginger.
You can’t charge me for services and then expect me to do the work.
Do you also pay your boss to let you do your job each day?
airbnb owners charge $200/night for a property that’s maybe only worth $3,000/month if it were rented to an actual tenant year-round.
they’re trying to squeeze $6,000/month out of a $3,000/month property and then act like having to clean it themselves is murder.

So... the couple executed in Saudi Arabia got caught because some pervert filmed them, tried to blackmail the women into sex with HIM, and released the footage leading to her and her lover's execution when she refused.
And I'm supposed to be LESS horrified after this revelation?
For those of you who are still being mislead by the fake news of the execution in Saudi.
Here is what really happened. Now judge it yourself.
Nazrul Islam and Sithi Akter, two Bangladeshi nationals employed as cleaning workers for the Bin Laden Group in Mecca, became romantically involved while commuting to work. Nazrul lived in a residential villa in Hayyal Iskan, while Sithi resided in Batha Kuraysh.
In May 2023, the two engaged in illicit relations in a secluded stairwell room between Gates 85 and 87 of Masjidul Haram. Nazrul had asked an Indian acquaintance to stand guard downstairs, but the friend secretly recorded the encounter on video.
Later, when the Indian national attempted to make advances toward Sithi and was rejected, he leaked the video online.
The video quickly went viral, prompting immediate intervention by Saudi authorities, who successfully apprehended all three individuals.
The Indian national received a 20-year prison sentence for recording and distributing the footage.
Nazrul Islam and Sithi Akter were detained immediately following their arrest in May 2023.
Nazrul had originally arrived in Saudi Arabia from Bangladesh between November 10 and 13, 2022. Following his arrest in May 2023, he remained incarcerated throughout a lengthy three-and-a-half to four-year judicial process leading up to October 2026.
Throughout this period, official protocol dictated that the Saudi government notify the employer (sponsor) rather than foreign government authorities.
Various rumors circulated online falsely claiming that the individuals were pilgrims performing Umrah or that the charges stemmed merely from public displays of affection.
While the defendants were unmarried, the severity of the legal outcome was not solely based on the act of zina (adultery). Because the offense took place within the sacred precincts of Masjidul Haram, the court determined that they had severely violated the sanctity and honor of Islam's holiest mosque.
Consequently, senior judges of the Supreme Court handed down the death penalty as an exemplary punishment aligned with Quranic principles and the Sunnah.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Saudi confirmed Oct 14 2026 execution of Nazrul Islam and Siti Akhtar for indecent act in Mecca mosque. Official statements lack post's details of video by Indian, gates 85-87 or May 2023. Consulate: Aug 2023 detention. Narrative is unverified viral claim.

The funniest thing about Airbnb owners crashing out on threads is that their main response to everyone is "go stay in a hotel then" without somehow realizing that people have decided to stay in hotels instead and this is Airbnb trying to bring people back.

“Do you work well under pressure?”
Is this a job that involves real urgencies like an ER or a fire department, or is the pressure manufactured through poor management, uneven workload distribution, and inflated importance at the upper management level?

Japan Rail has deployed two goats to take care of an overgrown lot near Yotsuya (famous for Yokai)
Two goats Nagi ♂and Pokke ♀will be “working” in the area until around December (or the grass runs out)
A college freshman who was interviewed says she’s been stopping by every day after class and feels healed by watching the one and two year-old goats munch on grass
