At 9:50 every night, Japan's last regular overnight sleeper train glides out of Tokyo Station. It is called the Sunrise Express.
While the train has private lockable cabins, the most fascinating car on board is Car 5 and Car 12, known as the Nobi-Nobi seats.
For an extra seat reservation fee of about three dollars and fifty cents on top of your regular train ticket, you do not get a chair. You get a flat, heated, wall-to-wall carpeted floor with a big curved window looking up at the night sky.
There are no locked doors between passengers. Only a low wooden divider by your head so you don't see your neighbor's face while you sleep.
Before climbing onto the carpet, every passenger takes off their shoes and lines them up neatly in the aisle below, toes pointing out. Businessmen in suits, college students, and grandmothers lie down side by side under clean cotton sheets, set their phones on the little wooden shelf by their pillows, and fall fast asleep as the train hums along the Pacific coast.
When the morning sun rises over the Seto Inland Sea, everyone wakes up, steps into their own shoes in the aisle, and folds their blanket.
Only in a high-trust society can thirty strangers take off their shoes on a moving train and sleep like family.

THIS MORNING!
His ears cut off.
Beaten.
Shot in the back.
Stabbed.
This morning, cattle farmer Donovan Marx was viciously attacked on his farm between Potchefstroom and Ventersdorp in the North West. He was severely beaten. His ears were cut off. He was shot in the back/shoulder (doctors were still trying to remove the bullet) and stabbed in the leg with a sharp object. He’s fighting for his life in a Potchefstroom hospital.
A family member left the farm shortly before 8am. Attackers then struck. A farm worker was tied up but managed to free himself and raise the alarm. The attackers fled in Marx’s truck. They’re still free. VF Plus says the full details of the torture are so disturbing they won’t even publish them.
This is not “ordinary crime.” This is the same pattern of extreme brutality; ears severed, severe beatings, shootings, stabbings that has been targeting White farmers for years. English media is already silent. No front-page outrage. No presidential condemnation. If the roles were reversed, it would dominate news for weeks.

According to White House lore, Winston Churchill said he met Abraham Lincoln there...about eighty years after Lincoln died.
Churchill stayed there several times in the 1940s. The man liked to end his days with a long, hot bath, a glass of scotch and a cigar.
As the story goes, one night he climbed out of the bath and walked into the bedroom wearing nothing but a cigar.
Standing by the fireplace was Abraham Lincoln.
Churchill didn’t flinch. He took the cigar out of his mouth and said:
“Good evening, Mr. President. You seem to have me at a disadvantage.”
Lincoln smiled...and vanished.
Churchill reportedly never stayed in that room again.
What makes the story more wild is that Churchill wasn’t the only one who saw Lincoln.
Over the years, presidents, first ladies, and White House staff have reported seeing Lincoln’s ghost more than any other in the house.
Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands supposedly answered a knock at her guest room door and found Lincoln standing in the hallway in his top hat. She fainted.
’Tis the season for Halloween and ghosts. In my experience, Pennsylvania’s Cashtown Inn is haunted.
Built around 1797 as a stagecoach stop along the road between Chambersburg and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the Cashtown Inn became a tavern in 1815.
Owner Peter Marck reportedly insisted on cash payments, giving the inn and eventually the surrounding village the name Cashtown. Eh eh?
On 29 June 1863, Confederate General A.P. Hill (and his red shirt) established headquarters at the inn and two days later, Confederate troops advanced east toward Gettysburg, where some battle happened.
During and after the fighting, the inn served as a Confederate headquarters and field hospital.
A stream runs under the inn. According to local claims, so many amputations took place there that severed limbs were piled outside and the water running through the basement was literally red. We have the visuals?
Following the Confederate defeat, the inn served as a headquarters during the evacuation of badly wounded Confederate soldiers toward Virginia.
👻 The ghosts. The stories are many and here are some of mine.
I have been touched a number of times there, starting on my first visit. I was trying to chat up the owner and something kept hitting my lower back. I thought it was a stool. There was no stool within feet of me.
I dragged my parents there, like any good son would.
My mother was dead asleep until someone gently brushed the hair off her brow and my father woke up to see a soldier sitting on the foot of the bed. Neither expected anything. They weren’t ghost people, just visitors to an old inn.
I captured excellent footage from a video camera sitting on a rocking chair. The footage went up and down as the chair rocked. A second camera, pointed directly at the chair and first camera, mysteriously died. None of its footage survived.
Those are some of my stories. The place has a lot of energy. I’d not make a claim if I didn’t believe it.
Photos are the Inn, the bed where hair was brushed, the basement with the creek/spring, my creepy self and the couch I was on had sh*t happen while I witnessed it.
#PSG & #Fleetwood have both beaten #Arsenal in penalty shootouts! Brilliant! Couldn’t dump out a nastier manager & team! Bravo Fleetwood!

This is the view from my bedroom window…..we’re putting the house on the market in March….I know it’s the sensible to do….I will miss my little (Mountfield 847H) sit on mower…..for about 4 months sheep are on that upper field across the valley….always so lovely to see them….and hear them.
As I’m 76 it’s time to be sensible and downsize. The four grandsons love playing football in our garden….we’re moving to be closer to them and all of us are moving out of London. I was born in West Ham in 1950….went to an all boys boarding school in Woodford Green in the 1960’s…..my wife went to a boarding school in Malaya aged 7….we are both of a generation that are on the way out….my greatest concern is the rise and dominance of Islam in our country. Through the ballot box and birth rates we are being replaced…..creeping Sharia is everywhere now…..I’m so sad.

June 6, 1944. An American paratrooper jumps into Normandy in the dark and lands on the roof of a church.
By the end of the war he had been declared dead, held a funeral he didn't attend, escaped the Nazis, and fought his way toward Berlin in a Soviet tank unit.
His name was Joseph Beyrle. He's believed to be the only American soldier to serve in both the US Army and the Red Army during World War Two.
Beyrle was from Muskegon, Michigan. He joined the 101st Airborne, the Screaming Eagles. His buddies called him Jumpin' Joe.
On D-Day night his plane was hit by flak and he jumped early. He came down on a church roof, slid off, and lost his unit in the chaos. For a few days he fought on his own, blowing up a power station and cutting German communications.
Then he was captured.
Here's where it gets strange. A German soldier ended up wearing Beyrle's uniform and dog tags. That German was killed. When the body was found, the Americans identified it as Joseph Beyrle.
The army told his parents their son was dead. His hometown held a funeral mass for him. His obituary ran in the local paper.
Meanwhile, he was very much alive, being moved from one German prison camp to another.
He escaped more than once. One time he and two other prisoners jumped off a train heading east. They thought they were heading for Russia and freedom. They got lost and ended up in Berlin, where they were caught by the Gestapo, beaten, and tortured.
In January 1945, from a camp in eastern Germany, he finally made a clean escape. He went east, toward the gunfire. Toward the Soviets.
When he found a Soviet tank unit, he walked out with his hands up, holding a pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes, and shouted the only Russian he knew. American comrade.
It worked.
He asked to join them. And they said yes.
For about a month, an American paratrooper rode with Soviet tank crews as they pushed toward Germany. He used his demolition training. He fought. He was reportedly welcomed by a Soviet officer who was one of the rare women commanding a tank battalion.
Then a German dive bomber attacked. Beyrle was badly wounded.
He was evacuated to a Soviet hospital. Soviet Marshal Georgy Zhukov reportedly visited, heard his story, and gave him papers to get to the American embassy in Moscow.
When he showed up, the embassy didn't believe him. As far as the US was concerned, Joseph Beyrle was dead. They held him under guard until his fingerprints proved who he was.
He made it home to Michigan in April 1945.
In 1946 he got married. In the same church where they'd held his funeral.
Decades later, in 1994, he was honored at the White House by President Bill Clinton and Russian President Boris Yeltsin for serving both countries.
And the last twist. His son, Joseph Beyrle II, grew up to become the United States Ambassador to Russia.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Joseph Robert “Joe” Beyrle had two sons. The elder son, Joe Beyrle II, served during the Vietnam War, but wasn’t a US Ambassador. That was the other son, John Beyrle.

Extremely serious allegations against the government tonight.
Sir Ben Wallace, the former Defence Secretary, has accused Labour of artificially inflating the defence budget by including security services spending.
This has been done, he alleges, to try and hoodwink Nato that we are on course to meet the commitment of defence spending as 3.5% of GDP by 2030.
DESPITE Nato rules clearly excluding security services in it's measurement.
The UK Statistics Authority is "considering" his complaint.
It doesn't need much consideration. It needs investigating, and if true, those complicit must pay the political price.
