How cool is this? When I visited Northern Farm in 2013, they chose 2 or 3 ylgs to show us. Our host Dr. Kawasaki said that this Deep Impact colt was his favorite. His 3rd dam was Miesque (pic), so I was delighted. As Real Steel, he became a G1SW but also, he sired Forever Young.

We practice this every day: letting go of the tug or ball on cue. It’s the best way to play games, but for him it’s even more important, because he’s going to have to let go of the sleeve when asked, in high drive. This prepares him.

This was 3 months ago, when he was 7 months. You’ll note how he lets go of the small sleeve on command.

I’ll have to look up Monkey. This is Bru’s first protection session with Ivan from August.

Forever Young (with jockey Ryusei Sakai up) did his final bit of work this AM ahead of Saturday's Longines Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland. That's it. And now, we wait. With this (and some turf works today), all the BC works are in and the horses are as ready as they'll be 🙌🏻

Thank you for chronicling it, Frances. It’s been illuminative.

I had a personal highlight in training dogs last night. Gina, who was bred to hunt wild boar, had locked in on a raccoon and was going in for the kill. She was in full flight when I called her off and back to me. She responded immediately with no hesitation.

People have asked how I’ve done this. There are many factors, but, for me, trust is first. Then, a strong recall. Here, she’s in a sit/stay in Manhattan, very relaxed, even though she’s genetically very environmentally stimulated. The other vid is a recall when she can’t see me.

This may be hard to comprehend, but Gina, a pitbull/catahoula purpose-bred “hog dog,” was a *lot* harder to raise than our working-line Malinois. In fact, the Mal is a Doodle compared to Gina.

You can see Gina’s dominance over Bru here. Doesn’t matter how big he gets, she’s the boss lol
