The hobby is funny. People will spend 3 hours negotiating with you on eBay over $10, and then turn right around and spend $250 on a PrizePicks repack with a 74% chance of losing money.
PrizePicks is pricing the grails at approximately $60 million in gross pack sales per expected grail hit. 😅
Darren is correct here. The buyback element creates a closed-loop gambling economy.
Also, the “100% FMV buyback on your rips!” marketing is using the illusion of liquidity and downside protection to encourage customers to participate in a -EV lotto, repeatedly.
The area of repacks that will be heavily scrutinized by law (especially in California) are the buybacks. Traditional packs don’t offer buybacks. With cards, you don’t immediately get offers to sell 80% back. So the simple “they are digital version of yesterday’s packs” doesn’t on its face sidestep scrutiny.
This is another area where repacks are quite literally more exploitative than actual slot machines (which are transparent, regulated, and have an established return-to-player percentage)
That is, the ability to use subjective card values when marketing potential returns. It’s predatory in the purest sense.

Repack companies have managed to create a product that makes slot machines look consumer-friendly.
Crazy times.
There is no clearer indication that you are being exploited by buying repacks, than the eagerness of all these non-collectible companies (in this case a legitimate gambling company) to get in on it.
BREAKING: @PrizePicks -- now owns ALL THREE Rookie Patch Auto Debuts from the Fanatics Collect auction last month.
The Flagg sold for $8.2M, the Harper sold for $2.88M and the Knueppel sold for $2.34M.
Assumed these will be part of company's new repack product.
If you’re dealing in extremely liquid cards that sell frequently at predictable prices, go ahead and see if a vendor will give you 85-90% cash at a show. No harm in it.
If you want to maximize the value of your less common cards, I still think eBay is king.
Stop selling your cards at card shows if you are an attendee.
All these dealers do is scan your card on a pricing app and offer you a percentage of last sale.
Instead, start your own eBay account and build up a strong seller profile by selling your own stuff.
Have a strong presence on social media (IG, X, etc.) to generate sales through those channels.
Build something of your own.
Jalen Hurts likely done.
The good news is, it’s manageable.
But there is a good chance he never plays again.
Jalen Hurts, why these blood clots could be career-ending:
In short:
He will always be at increased risk for blood clots, for the following risk factors:
He has multiple blood clots in his lungs currently
Frequent travel due to occupation
Recurrent hits secondary to occupation
History of COVID virus (massive clot risk)
History of COVID vaccine (confirmed)
Players can’t play a contact sport while on blood thinners.
Only way to prevent development of future blood clots knowing the above risks?
Being placed on blood thinners indefinitely (likely the rest of his life).
IMO I don’t think a medical staff would ever clear him to play football again.

Imagine being a 38 year old man, standing in Target, giving a $7 pack of cards a prostate exam to hopefully land a $12 autograph.
Every time I go to target, there’s someone standing there digging through all the Allen & Ginter fat packs. It’s so shameless. @CardPurchaser why are fat packs even still a thing if everyone can just stand there for an hour digging their nails into the side of cards to find hits
Not the buyer for me lol.
Zero percent chance I’m getting you 30 more pictures and inspecting it under a microscope, just for you to ask “what’s your lowest?” and then request a return when your X-Ray machine identifies a flaw that won’t allow it to black label.
Terp isn’t necessarily wrong here, but at the same time if a PSA 10 means something different depending on when the card was graded, then what exactly are we paying PSA to certify? 🤔😂
The entire premise of third-party grading is consistency.
