It’s 9am on a Tuesday, ten weeks after closing on a small pool maintenance and repair company. You’re standing at the edge of a large commercial customer’s pool looking at green and black algae growing up the walls. The property manager is explaining, for the third time, that the algae was not there when the old owner ran the company. Your phone rings. It’s Brad, the plumber three units down in your warehouse complex. “Hey, your garbage just exploded. And there’s a weird smell out here.” The shop is two minutes away. You tell the property manager you’ll call her back and you’re in the truck before she can answer. You turn onto the street behind your shop and there’s a haze hanging over the warehouse strip. It’s drifting toward the houses behind it. At the stop sign you google “can chlorine gas kill you.” Yes. You google “how much chlorine gas is fatal.” You don’t love the answer. You pull in and stand in the parking lot with your thumb over 911. If you call, they evacuate the neighborhood and your company name is on the 6 o’clock news. If you don’t call and somebody’s grandma ends up on a ventilator, it’s worse. You call the old owner. Twenty years in the business. He’ll know. “Huh. I don’t know. You should really get that CPO certification. Good luck.” Click. The cloud is starting to thin out. You pull up the security cameras and scroll back to when the guys loaded out. There’s Mitch getting his truck ready for the day, cleaning out his skimmer baskets. He dumps the wet leaves into an empty chlorine bucket, screws the lid on tight, tosses it in the dumpster, and drives off to his first stop. You fast forward. The bucket launches out of the dumpster like a mortar round. A cloud rolls up and over the fence. You watch it three times. Mitch doesn’t have his CPO either. Neither of you knew that a little leftover chlorine powder, wet leaves, and a tight lid make the thing they banned after World War I. You think about the SBA loan. Your signature on the personal guarantee. The guy on YouTube who said pool routes are “the most passive business in America.” You google “liability for chlorine gas release in a residential neighborhood.” Then “does an LLC protect you from chemical weapons.” Then you clear your search history. The property manager texts: “Any update on the algae?” Mitch texts: “hey boss can I leave early tomorrow” It’s 9:20. Passive income.
If you work a W2 job and don't have a boring business that pays you $5k-$10k a month on top of your salary... I got you. Here are 9 boring businesses for sale today (& where to buy them):

The "cash flow" figures are Seller's Discretionary Earnings (SDE) including seller compensation for running the business; these service businesses are not passive side income atop a W2 salary and require active management or added costs that reduce net returns. bizbuysell.com/learning-cente… acquidex.com/blog/take-home… bigideasdb.com/passive-busine… duedilio.com/absentee-owner…

DISCLAIMER: This story may or may not be based on true events. Names, dates, places, chemical compounds, and the number of times the author may have watched the security footage have been changed, exaggerated, or invented for dramatic effect. Any resemblance to actual pool techs, former owners, plumbers, property managers, or algae is purely coincidental. This is satire. No grandmas were harmed (to my knowledge). No international treaties were violated, intentionally. The author is not a chemist or a lawyer. The author is, however, a CPO. This post does not constitute legal advice, chemical advice, or business advice, though the author would strongly advise against putting wet leaves in a chlorine bucket. By reading this post, you agree that small business is not passive income. This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Florida and the Geneva Protocol of 1925.

The switch from Google LSA to the Google Ads interface is horrible. May just turn off our LSA ads as a result.

Think of all the wasted compute spent on having Claude review the Anthropic S-1 when Anthropic could've already pre-loaded an overview of the S-1 into Claude for its use.

Good thing the Fed is raising rates. That will definitely solve the issue of rising gasoline prices, shelter, used cars, education, airfares and medical care... "The index for gasoline rose 9.1 percent in September, accounting for over half of the monthly all items increase. The energy index increased 5.2 percent over the month following a 2.1-percent increase in August. The shelter index rose 0.4 percent in September after rising 0.3 percent in August. The index for food was unchanged in September, as the index for food away from home increased 0.2 percent and the index for food at home fell 0.1 percent. The index for all items less food and energy rose 0.3 percent in September, as it did in August. Indexes that increased over the month include recreation, used cars and trucks, education, airline fares, medical care, and apparel. Conversely, the index for communication was among the small number of major indexes that decreased in September."

Higher rates have been leading to more inflation for several years now, IMO. Much of our inflation is being driven by a shortage of supply (e.g. housing, computing resources, healthcare) not an excess of demand. Higher rates inhibit supply, which further increases shortages, and thus adds to inflation.

Some ETA entrepreneur is going to buy this convenience store and be in for a terrible surprise.
At the start of every month, Middle Eastern-looking men load cart after cart of milk at Walmart and sometimes take it all. They were there again this month. It's baffling. 🤔

This is the challenge with AI. It makes your competition much more capable as well.
Important: Houthis Used @claudeai @AnthropicAI for Missile Programming Excerpt from the Detecting and countering misuse of AI: September 2026 GTG-87001: Disrupting a Yemen-based guided weapons engineering cell using Claude to develop guidance software Summary We identified a cell of threat actors based in northern Yemen running three weapons development programs: a guided rocket that used a commodity phone-class flight computer with final-phase homing guidance; a multi-stage ballistic missile with a stated range goal above 2,000 km; and a multi-variant missile (referred to as the “R2000” set) that included a hypersonic glide vehicle variant. The actors used Claude Code in place of human software engineers to develop the guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) software that steers and stabilizes a flying vehicle. For example, they used Claude to integrate an open-source autopilot onto a phone-class flight computer, writing the control and position estimation software, tuning the control settings, running a firmware build pipeline, and performing a flight simulation. The actors managed several Claude instances at once, assigning each one a role, much as a lead would delegate work on a small engineering team: the actors tasked one instance with writing the code, another with research, and a third with reviewing the code the first instance produced. Our safeguards blocked many of their requests, but not all of them. The actors used a variety of tactics to evade our safeguards, including hiding their goals and the products the software was meant for, and they split their work across multiple sessions so no single session revealed their full intent. These actors carried out a sustained effort to develop guided weapons, including using Claude to design guidance software. We do not have evidence the actors succeeded in fielding an operational device; but they did test-fire a guided rocket. This field test appears to have failed: within hours, the actors returned to Claude to work out why it failed. We identified this activity as part of our internal investigations into suspected weapons development. We banned accounts associated with the actors and shared threat information with public- and private-sector partners to mitigate risks posed by the actors. Nevertheless, we have evidence that the actors had already built an offline simulation toolkit that does not rely on Claude or other engineering computing environments such as MATLAB. anthropic.com/threat-intelli…

The Amazon multiple is even more interesting given the fact that it doesn't capture it's 12-figure Anthropic stake...
Usually you want to buy a stock when it is trading at a lower valuation than it usually trades at... Here are 5 stocks trading near the lowest price/operating cash flow multiple that they have in the past 5 years. 1) Amazon $AMZN

How times change.. Gold mining companies produce strong free cash flow and have net cash balance sheets while the largest tech companies have negative free cash flow and net debt balance sheets due to heavy CAPEX spending.
Gold Miners: The highest free cash flow generation, the strongest profit margins and the best balance sheets in history - by far. 💰⛏️

It's so easy to say something like this is the result of something simple like a secondary impact of the GLP-1 movement and totally miss all the hard work, leadership, and team work that actually drove this operational turnaround. Victoria’s Secret has rebuilt much of its executive team over the past three years. Here are the key hires and appointments, ordered by seniority and then chronologically: • Hillary Super, CEO, September 2024. Former CEO of Savage X Fenty and Global CEO of Anthropologie. • Scott Sekella, CFO, January 2025. Former CFO of JOANN. His responsibilities later expanded to Chief Financial and Operating Officer. • Anne Stephenson, President of Victoria’s Secret, May 2025. Rejoined the company as Chief Merchandising Officer in July 2023 before being promoted to brand president. • Amy Kocourek, President of Beauty, March 2025. Former Chief Merchandising Officer at Kendra Scott. • Ali Dillion, President of PINK, May 2025. Former President of Alex Mill, with prior leadership roles at Gap and J.Crew. • Elizabeth Preis, Chief Marketing and Customer Officer, May 2025. Former Global CMO of Anthropologie. • Adam Selman, SVP and Executive Creative Director, April 2025. Former Chief Design Officer at Savage X Fenty and Victoria’s Secret’s first executive-level creative director. • Adrian Butler, EVP and Chief Technology Officer, August 2026. Former CTO of Foot Locker, with previous leadership roles at Target and Dine Brands. The broader pattern: new leadership across strategy, merchandising, finance, brand management, creative, marketing, customer experience, and technology. The company said in May 2026 that CEO Hillary Super had replaced more than half of its senior leadership team. (No position)
This one is so obvious in retrospect… Women get thinner, feel better about themselves, buy sexy stuff. There are geniuses studying sat photos 16 hours a day counting barrels of oil and they won’t do nearly this well.

16 months ago this company was priced like it was going out of business at ~4x EBITDA. Now it's being priced at 10-11x expected EBITDA for the current fiscal year, which is expected to be up significantly vs last year.

If you get a huge token bill from Claude or ChatGPT one of two things must be true: (1) you are either getting a massive ROI on your spend; (2) or you are incredibly wasteful in your token usage. There is no in-between.
