It's live! In the post linked below I breakdown the technical workflow I use for my 100% shader-drawn roguelite game NOGON. Give it a read if you're interested in shaders, indie game dev using Godot, etc.

Excerpt from my upcoming itchio blog post where I talk through the workflow I use for my indie roguelite game.
If you're interested in godot, shaders, procedural texturing, sdfs, etc - follow me on itchio (link in bio) and I'll post here when the full post goes live as well.
So technology built up from the greatest theft of all human history, might actually create a pretty shitty future?
This is my shocked face 😐
It's a dragon ball! 💫
Wait no, it's just a shader to show the player's star rank/level 😄

A chance to obtain a permanent upgrade, for instance this one grants +1 MAX HP... unless you get crushed first
Should your run be ended if you die in these stages, or just lose the chance of the upgrade? Let me know 👇

It is #screenshotsaturday and I am still debating whether to move forward with this retro shader look -_-
Wanted to add a unique stage for weapon drop rewards, but decided to just add them into the starcade stage I already built for buying trinkets.
As I replay older roguelites (like tboi) I increasingly realize that the elegant simplicity of their designs which I marvel at, are likely results from similar necessary compromises during development!

Been working on stage transitions, it's amazing how the little things add so much to game feel.

As an indie dev I want my game engine editors to be offline, boot fast, run optimized, package small, and provide useful tools while not getting in my way.
Which is why I use Godot now.
Introducing Unity Spark — a new way to create a game, iterate on it with others, publish it, and play it - all without writing a line of code.
You'll build with artist-created assets from the Unity Asset Store, and then you can take your game to the next level by refining it in a new web-based editor.
Prompt it. Perfect it. Publish it. Inspired games, with artist-created assets, built on Unity.
Closed beta coming soon.
The gacha ball shader came out so good I wanna use it everywhere now 😂
these gacha balls hold valuable trinkets you'll want on your journey through my shader-drawn roguelike
what do you think this star wand does? 🌟
can't wait to share more :)

I'm going to embed frames of donkeys randomly throughout videos in my game press kits
If i get emails saying they love my donkey game, i'll know what's up
#indiedev
sometimes i load up this level just bc i love the background effect so much
❌no textures
❌no mesh
✅a 2d shader doing fake 3d cube projection of tiled sdf planks with a procedural wood grain pattern

🤜Weapon swapping is working in game
Now the weapon system is nearly complete 🫨
I was worried this weapon system in addition to doing trinkets would be too big scope, but it's come along quicker than expected.
Get excited!
