One of the best short pieces I’ve read on the future of church in N America. Thank you, @RevMichaelWoolf!
(And yes, a nice plug for the Slow Church book in there… 😁)

Peter heard the gospel from Jesus himself, in the flesh, and only understood it fully several years after the resurrection.
It takes time for the truth to sink in and for the lights to go on.
So, be patient with others.

The renewal of the church will not start with microphones on stages, it will start with meals around tables.

I’m so sick of hearing Christians talk like our standard as Christ followers is to be “biblical”.
We were never ever called to behave “biblically”.
We are called to be CHRISTLIKE. We are called to be LIKE GOD.
End rant//
For now.

Christian nationalism replaces the worship of Jesus with the worship of political power.
Christian nationalism is accepting Satan’s temptation of Jesus, when he showed him all the kingdoms of the world and said “all this I will give you if you will bow down and worship me.”

If you want to find Christ do not look to the personalities on the stage or to the platforms with legions of followers.
Look for Christ in the local places, where quiet goodness and faithfulness needs no audience.

There's nothing clearer to me for 2022: the good life is the quiet life, the faithful life, the unhurried life, the neighborhood dwelling life, the life growing roots in the all-consuming love of the Father, Son, and Spirit.

This was seriously one of the most fun conversations I’ve had this year!
I've just read @JohnSwintonAbdn's Becoming Friends of Time and @RootAndrew's The Congregation in a Secular Age. You can listen to @ERBks's most recent conversation with Root and Swinton, hosted by @ChrisSmithIndy. englewoodreview.org/podcast-…

I needed this reminder on @ERBks from @JohnSwintonAbdn that Jesus moved at approximately 3 miles per hour and that the pace of love is slow.

Facilitating a discussion at church this morning, on @curt_thompson’s important book The Soul of Shame (@ivpress p. 126), when I encountered this paragraph. So many good things I could say in reflection, but just a few here for now… #thread

Today’s case of “books I shouldn’t find at a used book store, so I bought it to fix your mistake.” @SlowChurches is a must read to do church like BBQ: low, slow, and with local ingredients. Required reading for pastors, especially those wanting to detox from megachurch ideology. – at Jackson, MI

Loving slow church process nowadays. Found a new love for liturgy & hymns written by saints 100s of years ago - a deeper sense of spirituality & of closeness to God works for me. Not to say I don’t still enjoy worshipping alongside thousands occasionally @SlowChurches
