This explains why we hardly ever see bullet trains zooming by from the ground in China! So much of the track is elevated, with many sections over 100+ feet above the ground! Crazy to see how high it’s built above land.
Incredible High Speed! After riding bullet trains many times in China & Japan, today was our 1st time watching them zoom by at high speed from this coffee shop up in the hill in Yangshuo. The stunning karst mountains in the background make the view even more Spectacular! 🤯 🚅

This hidden hilltop coffee shop is called “Yangshuo Shanshui Train,” located about 3.5 miles from Yangshuo Railway Station in Yangshuo, China. To visit this secret spot, each person must purchase at least one drink. Coffee is $5.70 🚅☕️

Day 28: Taking the bullet train to Shenzhen, near Hong Kong to check out some attractions! 🚄 Our aunt and uncle are on the same train as us, but they will get off in Hong Kong since their 10-day visa-free transit period expires tomorrow. You must exit into another country 🇭🇰 Hong Kong qualifies as a separate destination outside mainland China for this policy because it has its own immigration system. Even though it’s part of China, crossing into Hong Kong counts as leaving mainland China. 🇭🇰 🚅✈️

See! Our aunt and uncle exited Mainland China and entered Hong Kong after a 3.5-hour bullet train ride from Yangshuo. EASY PEASY! 🇨🇳🚅🇭🇰

Heads up if you’re 60+ and visiting China, Some attractions have age limit! Sadly, our mom couldn’t join us on this relaxing bamboo ride because you have to be under 70 to ride. It’s because the raft goes down 4 tiny slides along the river to get past the dams. This is what the slide is like:

They check your passport when you buy tickets, but even if someone younger buys a ticket for our mom, she still can’t ride. They check both your passport and weight at the loading station, with a maximum combined weight of 352 pounds for two people per raft.

Since these bamboo rafts only go downstream with no engine, here’s how they get them out of the river and transport them back to the starting point. There’s 1 worker for every 2 passengers, so that’s a lot of bamboo rafts to bring back.
One of the attractions you can enjoy in the Yangshuo/Guilin area is a relaxing bamboo raft ride down the Yulong River with awesome views of the karst mountains! The 30 minute ride takes you over 4 dams with tiny drops along the way. $30 per raft for 2 guests. Cool experience! 🏔️

Shanghai Disneyland & Universal Studios Beijing don’t have age restriction, but our mom has been turned away from several attractions at other places in China. She was not even allowed on a Soarin’ type theater ride, a 3 mile glass waterslide, and go-kart down a mountain.

This bamboo raft ride looks so relaxing, but it also has little slides that take you down to different water levels because of the dams. We went down 4 slides along the river. So much fun!

“Xianggong Shan Sightseeing Platform” is one of the most popular viewpoints in the Guilin/Yangshuo area. Everyone comes here for the stunning panoramic views of the Karst Mountains. Took us 11 minutes to hike up to the viewing platform. Entrance $9 per person 🏔️

Once you reach the top, there are 4 different viewing platforms to enjoy the stunning mountain views! For those planning to visit, Xianggong Shan Sightseeing Platform is located on the other side of the river. Head to the boat launch area at Xingping Ancient Town and take a boat across for 75¢. Once you reach the other side, hop on a shuttle for a 20-minute ride to the viewpoint location. The shuttle costs around $5 round trip. If you’re not sure how to get there, just show any of the locals this photo.

We did the Yulong River Scenic Area Bamboo Raft Tour, one of the most popular bamboo raft rides in the area! This ride lasts about 30–40 minutes, while the other routes take 1.5–2 hours. Plus, this raft is manually pushed along by a guide rather than powered by an electric motor
