Tibetan scholar, Canadian citizen, and expert eyewitness to China’s residential boarding school policy in Tibet, Dr Gyal Lo, has been served with Chinese legal documents at his Toronto home, in retaliation for his advocacy for Tibetan children.
Dr Gyal Lo’s investigation exposing China’s colonial-style boarding schools in Tibet - a system designed to strip young Tibetans of their language and cultural identity through forced enrollment - was published in The New York Times. This legal action marks a significant escalation in Beijing's efforts to silence critics and conduct transnational repression against Tibetans in exile.
We spoke with Dr Gyal Lo in 2023 about the colonial boarding schools system. You can listen to that interview at youtube.com/watch?v=kri9Y-NB…

Football GOAT @Cristiano stood firm, acknowledging the millions of deaths and devastation caused by Mao Zedong in China and globally.
🚨 🎙️ Cristiano Ronaldo Reacts To Kylian Mbappe and Chinese Political Issue concerning Mao Zedong:
🗣️“Listen, Kylian has every right to laugh at memes made about him. People have been calling him ‘dictator’ for years and making all kinds of jokes. When he saw that one with Mao Zedong’s face, he laughed because he thought it was just another meme about him. That’s normal. He’s a human being and a great guy. It wasn’t Mbappé who created those memes. The Chinese are trying to create a problem where there is none. Yes, Mao Zedong did a lot of damage and caused the deaths of millions of people, but your anger should not be on Mbappé for laughing at a joke. The world does not revolve around China. Not everything has to become an international crisis because someone laughed at a meme. Let the man live.” #MaoZedong #china

Following the 7.0-magnitude earthquake in Drachen, Nagchu, on 22 October, Chinese authorities have intensified the information blackout, suppressed casualty reports, coerced video confessions, and restricted humanitarian aid. While official figures report 16 dead and 76 injured, local Tibetans suggest the toll may be significantly higher.

According to the latest information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD), Chinese authorities have forcibly closed at least three private Tibetan schools in the Golok (Ch: Guoluo) region of Amdo over the past three months. The closure comes amid China’s accelerated forced assimilation policies following the implementation of the 'Ethnic Unity Law', which took effect on July 1 of this year.
The schools are the Golok Tadrak Orphan School, the Ra-Gya Jigme Gyaltsen Grassland (Tsathang) Girls’ School, and a community-funded village school in Jasag village.

An orphanage for 300 children. A school for 800 nomad girls. A village school built by crowdfunding.
All shut by China in weeks. Their crime? Teaching in Tibetan.
This is how Beijing erases a people, one classroom at a time.

ALT The Jasak village school near Ragya Monastery in Ragya Town, Machen County. Local villagers founded the school and kept it running through crowdfunding to keep the Tibetan language alive. Officials told the school verbally that teaching in Tibetan was unacceptable, and it was forced to close at the end of August 2026. Its roughly 300 students were sent to government-run boarding schools.

How can the UN uphold human rights when China can use its veto to block accountability? The voices of Tibet, East Turkistan, SouthernMongolia & Manchuria must be heard, not silenced. Hong Kong & Taiwan must not be bullied into submission. Human rights must stand above veto power.
Delivered India's statement at the UNGA Plenary on the use of the Veto
Highlighted:
➡️ Veto is a responsibility, not a tool of narrow political expediency. We note that two of the P5 have not exercised veto for over three and a half decades. Most vetoes or threats of vetoes have emanated from three of the P5.
➡️ Piecemeal reforms will not work. All five clusters of UNSC reform must be addressed together.
➡️ Veto initiative of 2022 was seen as a harbinger of change. However, actual record of large number of vetoes cast since UNGA 76/262 tells a contrary story.
➡️ Unwritten consensus rules enable de facto vetoes in Council decisions and sanctions committees.
➡️ Consensus cannot become a disguised veto in the Inter Governmental Negotiations (IGN).
➡️ India aligns with the Common African Position: As long as the veto exists, all permanent members must enjoy equal rights.
➡️ New long-term seats without veto powers would create second-class members and perpetuate inequity. All permanent members, including new ones, must enjoy equal rights.
➡️ Begin text-based negotiations with clear timelines. The UNSC must reflect today's realities, not those of 1945.

17-year-old monk Kalsang Wangchuk self-immolated in Ngaba in protest against Chinese rule. He was forcibly removed by security forces, and no news of him has emerged in the past 15 years. Where is he now? Is he alive or deceased? Who remembers him besides his family?

“ICT urges governments to move beyond expressions of concern and press China to release all Tibetans arbitrarily detained for exercising their fundamental rights, account for those who have been disappeared, investigate allegations of torture, and grant independent UN experts meaningful access to Tibet.” – Tencho Gyatso, ICT President
The story of Gonpo Tsering and the countless other detained Tibetans is a stark reminder: #religiousfreedom does not exist in CCP-occupied Tibet. We must recognize that while we celebrate International #ReligiousFreedomDay, the CCP continues to challenge and deny the #humanrights and freedoms of the #Tibetan people.

Chinese state media coverage of the recent earthquake in Drachen, Nagqu, has drawn sharp criticism for prioritizing staged political propaganda over the realities facing affected communities. Official broadcasts across Chinese state media outlets have focused heavily on military deployments and red flags, while completely ignoring disaster relief efforts and expressions of solidarity from Tibetans in other regions.
Operating in a media environment with even less freedom than North Korea, state media is orchestrating a forced, synchronized narrative—where a hundred voices sing a single official tune. Rather than addressing genuine public concerns following the Nagqu quake, authorities routinely politicize standard disaster relief, framing basic government assistance as an act of state benevolence while suppressing traditional Tibetan mourning practices and community-led response efforts.

We reject China's so-called "Ethnic Unity Law."
It is not unity - it is forced assimilation. A law to erase languages, culture, and identity under the name of unity.
Unity cannot be legislated by force. True unity comes from respect and equality.

As China continues to build more dams, mine more mountains, and exploit Tibet's natural resources, the Tibetan Plateau is becoming exhausted. Nature is signaling this exhaustion through an increasing number of natural disasters. Whatever happens on the Tibetan Plateau will have consequences for the rest of the world. Therefore, the safest and most responsible action is to hand back the Tibetan Plateau to the Tibetan people.

The Ra-Gya Jigme Gyaltsen Grassland (Tsathang) Girls’ School in Golok, Amdo, was among at least three Tibetan schools forcibly closed by Chinese authorities between August–September 2026.
Established to expand educational opportunities for girls from nomadic communities, the school provided instruction in Tibetan language, Buddhist philosophy, science, traditional medicine, and other subjects.
The latest closures of the schools further demonstrates the shrinking space for independent Tibetan language education.
