Idk why people struggle with this, but slop is the complete antithesis of something solid and resilient meant to last long term. By definition you slop things you don't give a fuck about. Not all projects that use AI are slop, but most of what is being published right now is.

its basically tiktok brain for console hacking. People can come in, spend a few days with AI to do something, drop it for clout, then leave. They don't need to care about the future, they got what they wanted. This is what we want? Short term gains for long term losses?

What I feel like LLM slop is hitting at the core is the feeling that you're making valuable contributions. The struggles and the journey to make something cool is part of what makes it so cool and fulfilling. In a world of slop, it feels pointless to bother putting in your time.

I didn't say you should never use LLMs. I'm saying releasing things that are cranked out whole-sale by LLMs will not have staying power, because part of what made these projects special was the creativity and passion put in by the developers. The penny will drop eventually.

Yeah slopbros can't be convinced that effort or quality matters so I won't try. Enjoy the low-effort sludge that subsidized claude plans can pump out while you can. It's definitely just ego, you should put as little effort into life as possible 馃憤

I don't want to say people shouldn't enjoy cool things being released, if it makes you happy that's awesome. But to me a lot of it feels hollow. AI generated stuff has soulless quality to it that's difficult to quantify, and 99% of these projects won't be maintained, bet on it.
Not even just speaking about console hacking here, the explosion in game modding communities of new stuff has been crazy too. So many people are hype about it, but I think it will drive away the people who really kept these communities alive for these fly-by-night contributions.
I'm curious on the long-term impacts. I think a lot of long-time scene veterans feel this way, and while the slop mods/projects are being embraced now, eventually people will be fatigued of them. Then all the people who poured their passion and effort into the space will be gone.
Can I say something? This whole situation is seriously starting to get on my nerves.
At this point, it feels like I can't show anything on screen anymore without seeing the same ideas being replicated by someone else shortly afterward. And, as usual, the people who come along later end up getting far more attention than the person who originally came up with the idea and developed it first.
I keep seeing all kinds of emulators and application ports made by people who practically joined the scene yesterday being shared and promoted everywhere. Meanwhile, I've been developing projects for PS4 and PS5 for years, putting thousands of hours into my work, yet I still feel like most of what I create gets systematically overlooked.
I'm not asking for recognition simply because I've been around longer, but I do believe that originality, hard work, and years of contributions deserve at least some acknowledgment.
And I want to make one thing absolutely clear: I have nothing against the person I'm replying to. This isn't personal, nor is it an attack on their work.
This is just me venting about a situation I've seen happen over and over again, and frankly, it's becoming incredibly frustrating.

I鈥檓 not saying LLMs are not effective, but rather that it is taking away the reasons a lot of folks did console research. In many ways it overlaps with the same problem the CTF community has been facing.
Please don鈥檛 take this or the replies as justification to personally attack anyone, this is mostly just a consequence of the times we鈥檙e in. It just makes me a bit sad and the situation is unfortunate.

Agreed, this extends way beyond console stuff and I鈥檓 soap boxing a bit. But this has and will continue to drive talented researchers away. People do console research for fun not day jobs, LLMs have basically corporatized it.

Or rather, trashed by people using LLMs who cannot comprehend the amount of effort and passion that went into these things in the past. And they're only able to use LLMs to do this because it basically stole and trained on all the past work done by people like flow.
Replying to @ElnTskX3
Maybe if you step back for a second and re-read your own words, you can understand. Pre-LLMs people were not so reckless and careless about burning other people's stuff because a lot of time and effort needed to be put in. Hundreds of hours, years of expertise. Trashed by LLMs.

Shocking news alert: most people who previously did console research did it for the fun of finding out how things work and digging into things. Prompting a chatbot and bruteforcing solutions isn't very fun or rewarding. I'm sure the piracy kids are thrilled though.
LLMs fracturing the console research space feels like a good litmus test of where we're at lmao. The future is slop and the fun is dead.
But r/blackops2 said devkits/testkits have special magic that makes them impossible to ban so this can't be true

There's been a rumor going around that the dev/testkits that were banned were banned because they used a specific update file, the truth is the kits that were banned were banned because they were cheating online and anyone that suggests differently is coping

This is a general pattern I see in a lot of LLM-built things not just exploits. Tools/software are like this too, if you take things it builds out of the box it'll work on your machine but as soon as its not in an identical environment things break immediately

There some things I鈥檓 puzzled on with this. Does this only work on pre-zen CPUs? Readme hints it may work on later but there鈥檚 not much info I could see. I鈥檓 also confused on PSP impact? AFAIK most sensitive info is in SRAM not DRAM, and idk if fTPM is used on CPUs this old?

I think the problem is that this feeling for many expands beyond just CTFs, they're just the best example of it. It's really hard to feel proud of your work when you see people doing what used to take you weeks in 1 day of prompting. & idk if there's a good solution there either.
