I mean, they're kinda right about Unleashed not having that much of a plot. It has a great beginning and finale, but throughout the middle of the game, barely anything happens. Another gripe I have with Unleashed's story is with Chip, or more specifically, his character arc.
A bit of a hot take, but I don't really like Sonic Unleashed's story. It's one of the blandest stories in the 2000s era of Sonic, and is carried mainly be its cinematic pixar-like flair.
Beyond the nothing burger plot, what annoys me most about Sonic Unleashed's story is its awful tone. I've said it before, but there's some genuine meta-era writing in its story(sonic breaking the forth wall, chocolate jokes, lack of awareness for the situation ect.)
But a lighter tone isn't the problem. The problem is that the plot synopsis of the game involves the planet being BROKEN in several pieces. Surely thousands, if not millions of people would've died right?
So why is it treated as such a campy, lighthearted adventure?

Now, I like Chip. I think he's very cute, but I don't think his arc was done well. From the beginning, Chip suffers from amnesia and wants Sonic's help to regain his memories. With this setup, you would think that throughout the story we would learn more about Chip's Origins-
