Kudos to FOX, MLB, American Family Field, whoever that the pitch clock is not visible* to TV viewers. That is the spirit of the whole thing - to improve the game without being noticed
*The countdown creeps subtly into the scorebug with 3 seconds left, but that's appropriate
The NBA regular season and postseason would be so much better if only 8 or so teams made the playoffs.
Better from a practical standpoint (would address load management issues more effectively than any overengineered policy), and from an epically entertaining standpoint.
I can't believe I actually used to care (just as a fan, but as if I was an official representative of MLB) about TV ratings for the World Series.
As long as I get to watch, that's all that matters.
I am so excited for a great World Series between the @Brewers and @RaysBaseball
Nothing more entertaining than a sport's two best teams facing off for a championship.
That was the spirit of the BCS, but it was too flawed. 4, 8, 12, 16 might be the way to go. But not 24. 24 makes it very unlikely for the two best teams face each other in a given year.
Do MLB players/managers lowkey love these rare situations when they have to play postseason games on consecutive days in different cities? i.e. do they get excused from certain media obligations?
Another great episode out today! This time featuring @ATLHawks Assistant Coach and former AP College Basketball Coach of the Year @CoachMikeBrey along with @play360hoops Inventor/Founder Shane Brey

Brewers will play in the World Series for the first time since 1982. To all my fellow 1982-borns out there, get ready for all the 1982 references to come over the next two weeks.
I'm here for it. I've already learned that was the year Diet Coke was introduced. Keep it coming.
Tony's brilliant argument on PTI: Instead of rooting for LAD because it might help bring about their preferred cure (salary cap), owners should be rooting for MIL/TBY/CLE because it indicates the perceived disease (requirement to spend recklessly) doesn’t exist in the first place
For MLB games, FOX's production quality is a million bazillion times better than ESPN's. (And that's true even with Smoltz The Tedious on the call)
I love allowing higher seeds to select their playoff opponents, but no no no to the additional off-days in the postseason.
MLB already tried this. Around 2007, they added a non-travel off-day between Games 4 and 5 of the LCS, and it was the lamest thing ever and quickly scrapped
Replying to @MLB
MLB is proposing returning to a 154-game Regular Season and best-of-seven Division Series

ALT Schedule Changes Beginning in 2029, MLB proposes return to 154-game season and 7-game division series as part of salary cap and floor system. 154-Game Regular Season - Would return to 154-game schedule with a standard off day every week. Which Enables Best-Of-7 Division Series - Would expand the Division Series from best-of-five to best-of-seven, potentially adding up to 8 more Postseason games. More Prime Time Postseason Games - Would add additional off days in Postseason to reduce weekday daytime Postseason games, while giving pitchers extra rest.

ChatGPT made some troubling jokes much more recently than 15 years ago.
Can society as a whole agree "we're not moving forward with" AI?
~25 times a year, an MLB team plays games on consecutive days w/travel in between. Yet MLB forbids this in the WC round. So we get no games at Wrigley, Fenway, or a packed Philly or Southside. We get seas of empty seats in ATL and HOU bc they can't sell enough tix for 3 games
When someone scores from first base, calling it a "90-yard scoring run" puts it into a helpful perspective.
I'm surprised, when any onlooker is surprised, that a runner is huffing and puffing after scoring in such a way
"After weighing concerns across all time zones - about postseason games starting too late, and about postseason games being played during work/school hours, we have decided to start all postseason games at 4am Eastern Time"
MLB has decided that geography, and longstanding affiliation to a league (which itself hasn't been particularly distinctive or necessary for many years), matters far more than on-field performance when building its playoff field.
So dumb. And yet MLB still kinda brags about it
Uncut Gems is an *excellent* movie, but it's not what i would call *enjoyable*
More like 2+ straight hours of unrelenting anxiety, where the best possible outcome at any given time seems to merely be: that day's survival
