However, modern computer analysis has determined that the tablet represents the night sky over Mesopotamia in 3300 BC, making it an artifact of Sumerian origin, much older than originally believed. The tablet is classified as an Astrolabe, the oldest known astronomical instrument, featuring a disk-shaped star chart segmented with marked units of angle measure.
The tablet’s significance lies in its potential documentation of the Köfels impact event, a catastrophic asteroidal airburst over what is now Austria.
