ALT “Early this morning, the state budget was signed into law. Governor Evers and Senate Democrats fought Legislative Republicans for substantial increases in funding for child care, K-12 special education, UW campuses, and hospitals. I appreciate the work that was done to get the budget in the best place it could have been under the Republican legislative majority. But when it came time to vote, I had to ask: Does this budget meet the needs of the families I represent?” “My answer was no.”

ALT “Public schools were left out with no increase in general aid, for the first time in over a decade. This means that local property taxes will go up, or classroom budgets will get slashed. Child care got a one-year patch, but no long-term fix. Families are still paying more than they can afford, and providers are barely hanging on.” “I respect the hard work and compromise that led to this deal. But I could not support a budget that passes the cost onto our kids and working families in Milwaukee and around the state.”
