Sending untrained personnel into wildfires is extremely dangerous. Our wildfire training program is ready to go but the Gov't of Canada has disregarded our proposal for over a year.
Now's the time to get serious about protecting Canadians from this threat. @JonathanWNV @NRCan
In a move that every fire expert I spoke to said was pretty unusual, Alberta is asking for volunteers from the public service to help with the wildfire effort. What that says about the severity of the current season, and what might be still to come: thestar.com/news/canada/2023…

We fully support the mayors of Calgary, Lethbridge, Red Deer and Wood Buffalo in their call to restore local dispatch services.
Over the last two years, firefighters and paramedics have worked to do everything we can to fill in the gaps, but we are now at a breaking point.
