With what appears to have been an assist from Farage and Sunak, the GB News owners hedge fund has reportedly cashed by in betting against NatWest. This requires an urgent investigation so we can find out what has happened. So do reports of Truss and Kwarteng reportedly having lunch with hedgefunders that short the pound prior to the mini budget. Then after, at a widely reported champagne lunch, where Kwarteng was said to have been advised to double down on their horrifying budget, which further screwed the markets and left millions of Britons facing huge mortgage increases and risk of homelessness. It’s almost as if the book Jacob Rees Moggs dad wrote is being used as a manual. This is generally how "Sovereign Individuals" operate. One of Jacob Rees Mogg’s donors is Crispin Odey, ex husband of Murdochs daughter and the man that made millions in the aftermath of Brexit, after donating vast sums to leave groups, he has benefitted from a lot of crashes. He’s also linked to the fossil fuel big wigs, Mogg is vocally pro fracking and was very pro Brexit, but I’m sure that’s just a big coincidence… Disaster capitalism, shorting the pound, betting against your own country - the antithesis of patriotism. Yet they all claim to be the poster boys for patriotism? Real patriots look around now and feel little but shame for what their nation has become. That’s how it all generally works though, between the government and powerful people. It’s all high stakes gambling and bank robbing arranged in Prada at the Carlton by the elite, fuck ups orchestrated, billionaires get richer, send it all offshore - then we are left to pay for it, a society in ruins that’s told to accept low pay as food prices and energy bills soar, that face hate crimes as their red meat/ culture war rhetoric impacts our communities, that’s taxed higher as our public services fall to ruins due to government cuts. Meanwhile, MPs cash in, their pay increases, their expenses increase and their mates divvy out shares then take the money and run, or buy yachts and sail away. They’re like a posh mafia and we are all being conned on an industrial scale. amp.theguardian.com/politics…

You are ignoring the purple (very unhealthy/borderline hazardous) zones in Canada because IQair doesn't report non-major cities. Yet ~50% of Canada's population is impacted by this wildfire. NYC is one of the many cities impacted in the U.S. But we are nowhere near the worse.

It was such fun working with the @BrazenFM team on this one! Make sure you go and check the video out to see Salber and Stuart chat about morality, the climate crisis, and a good dose of realism/optimism
Stuart Evans, founder of @EAProject_ on the human-centered morals at the core of the climate crisis, challenging our presupposed truths, and leaning on each other to ultimately bring about change. 👉Now What? Episode 10, out now on YouTube: youtu.be/yZK5GV9y--k 🌏👤 ✊

Speciesist tendencies are intertwined to all other forms of oppression. Sending a vegan who isn’t intersectional into a debate with a bigot is one way to sabotage the vegan movement.

Paraphrasing Zizek here about the unintentional lack of self-awareness of Wood Milk Ad “At this point we reach the supreme irony of how BigAg functions today: it appears precisely as its own opposite, as a radical critique of non-carnist utopias."

This is one of the most bizarre political photos I’ve ever seen. This is the British Home Secretary in apparent ecstasy at the building of detention centers in Rwanda where she dreams of sending desperate people. This is now considered normal?

Frog knocked at Toad’s door. “Toad, wake up, he cried. “Come out and see how wonderful the winter is!” “I will not,” said Toad. “I am in my warm bed.”

How can universities committed to capital rather than education do what needs doing to face the world we live in, @StuartE_ poignantly asks us.

people don’t want to admit that actual poor struggling people can easily be vegan because then they would have to admit to themselves that they have every reason to go vegan but are still too selfish to do it. they are just projecting onto anyone and anything to avoid their guilt

Should biology retire the word "fish" in favour of "non-tetrapod vertebrate"? The continued use of "fish" allows the general public to carry on believing there is this one kind of thing, a fish.

amazing numbers from the @ucu ballots which show how many uni staff members are just so sick of the poor treatment experienced in the workplace i know a lot of SUs and sabbs will be discussing whether to support the strikes but here is why i think its imperative to do so 🧵

Idk whether it's a neurodivergent thing or what but honestly... working is what I *want* to do in my 'spare' time / on my holiday. I'm genuinely not doing it out of any toxic work culture bullshit. I feel I can do it *because* I'm on holiday... Anyone else get this?
