OTD in 1993: China Airlines Flight 605, a B-747, has a runway excursion at Kai-Tak (Hong Kong). All 374 aboard escape serious injury. Jet was attempting to land during a typhoon. Investigation revealed captain should have executed a missed approach in face of the alerts shown.

Viral before it was cool: OTD in 1997: Virgin Atlantic Flight VS024, an A340 makes an emergency landing in Heathrow. Of 114 aboard, 5 minor injuries. Left main landing gear jammed at takeoff. Report noted issues with design and certification of parts on the wheel brake assembly.

Yesterday afternoon at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL), this 32-year-old MD-11F, N273UP, saw the end of its life, being ripped apart.
It had been stored at ATL since the fleet grounding in November 2025. Delta Material Services acquired it this October for spare parts. It was towed away from the UPS ramp and dismantling began. The aircraft is now mostly torn apart.

ONE YEAR AGO TODAY: On November 4, 2025, UPS Airlines Flight 2976 crashed shortly after takeoff from Louisville, Kentucky, killing 15 people: all three crew members and 12 people on the ground.
Airport surveillance footage captured the horrifying moment the left engine and its pylon separated from the wing, following a structural failure in the engine's pylon mount.
Following temporary fleet-wide groundings and extensive inspections, UPS permanently retired its entire MD-11F freighter fleet.
The NTSB's full final investigation report is still pending.

古くから農家に嫌われて害獣とされて来た『狸』だが
冤罪の側面も有る事が一年間に及ぶタヌキの糞を分析した論文で明らかになっていて
J-STAGE Articles - 千葉県佐倉市の里山におけるタヌキの食性と被害問題 doi.org/10.18960/hozen.2502によると
「農作物の占有率は通年で17.4%だったが、地上に落ちたものが採食されており、タヌキは農作物を加害していない可能性が大きい。駆除は必要性を確認して適地・適時に行うべき」としている
狸を悪玉としたり怪異とする物語が生まれた室町時代頃は戦乱の世であり
田畑が荒れて作物が散乱していたり人間の死体が野晒しにされていたりと
腐肉も食べる雑食性の狸はそれらを食べる姿を目撃されて悪印象を持たれて
その事がずっと現在まで尾を引いて来た様で
古くからの害獣イメージと視力が悪く鈍臭い狸が他の害獣が荒らした田畑の周辺でよく目撃される事によって
ずっと濡れ衣を着せられて来たと言うのが実際の所なのだろう
不憫で可哀想な狸である

うっすら寒くなってきたので、日本全国の温泉を可視化してみた。
全体的に、活火山の集中地帯では熱々のお湯がたくさん湧き出る傾向。
11月のお休み、どこの温泉に行こうかな？と調べているうちに、どんどん時間が経っていく･･･。

台風は本州には接近しない見込み。
ただ、前線が接近し、台風から離れていてもその前線に台風由来の湿った空気が流れ込み、関東中心に10月半月分〜1か月の雨が降るおそれも。
