How I wish that our response to Wole Soyinka was a bit more organized. Different groups should have been arranged to either issue Press Releases or call

Offa Robbery: Kwara Govt’s U-Turn Vindicates Our Position on Saraki, Ahmed, Says Offa Youth Progressive
The Offa Youth Progressive has said the Kwara State Government’s decision to withdraw 18 of the original 20 charges against former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, and former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed vindicates its longstanding position that the two former leaders should not be associated with the 2018 Offa bank robbery.
The group, in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Mr Adekola Mubarak Tadenikawo and obtained by Just Event Online TV, described the development as a vindication of its position that the allegations against the two former leaders were politically motivated and intended to smear their reputations for partisan interests.
It noted that while the government had withdrawn the 18 original charges, it introduced two new charges, bringing the total number of charges in the amended case to four. The group, however, maintained that the development raises serious questions about the handling of the case and reinforces its call for justice to be guided strictly by evidence and due process.
The group recalled that it had consistently maintained that Saraki and Ahmed had nothing to do with the unfortunate incident, describing the repeated attempt to link them to the robbery as part of a political campaign to discredit them.
It further condemned what it described as the politicisation of the tragedy, insisting that the people of Offa deserve justice, compassion and genuine concern, rather than the exploitation of their painful experience for partisan advantage.
The group vehemently urged the people of Offa to reject any government and political party that turns their misfortunes into political tools, particularly by repeatedly exploiting the tragedy during election cycles to advance partisan interests. It said the people must not allow their pain, the loss of lives and the destruction suffered by families and businesses to become convenient campaign materials whenever elections approach.
“Enough of the deceit and political propaganda built around the misfortune of our people. Offa deserves better than a political culture that repeatedly brings up its tragedy for electoral advantage. Our people must reject any government or political party that exploits their suffering to score cheap political points,” the statement added.
The group congratulated Saraki and Ahmed on the withdrawal of the armed robbery-related charges, expressing hope that the remaining legal issues would be resolved fairly and in accordance with the law.
It also urged the government to demonstrate greater sensitivity to the feelings of the people of Offa and allow the judicial process to proceed without political interference. – at Ilorin, Nigeria
Offa Robbery Case: Saraki, Ahmed Seek Judge's Recusal, Court Adjourns Hearing to July 21
The Kwara State High Court has adjourned until July 21, 2026, for the hearing of an application filed by lawyers to former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, seeking the recusal of the trial judge in the Offa robbery case instituted by the Kwara State Government against him and former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
The application, filed by the defence team led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Kamaldeen Ajibade, urges the presiding judge, Justice Osuolalale Ajayi, to withdraw from the case on grounds of potential conflict of interest and the need to preserve the integrity of the judicial process.
In a statement issued by Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir Press Officer on Local Matters Abubakar Bukola Saraki Media Office Abuja and obtained by Just Event Online TV
According to the motion on notice dated July 13, 2026, the defence argued that Justice Ajayi is also presiding over a related civil suit, KWS/492/2024, involving Yusuf Aishat Ibikunle & 2 Others v. Governor of Kwara State & Others*, which arose from the same Offa robbery incident.
The defence maintained that while Saraki and Ahmed are the first and second defendants in the ongoing criminal proceedings, they are also the third and fourth defendants in the civil matter. The lawyers contended that the principal issues in both cases are substantially intertwined.
In the 27-page application, the defence argued that the civil suit is founded on substantially the same facts and allegations forming the basis of the criminal charge, noting that the judge had already commenced proceedings in the civil matter.
According to the application, this creates a reasonable apprehension of bias and could undermine public confidence in the impartial adjudication of the criminal case.
The defence further argued that, in the interest of justice and to uphold the constitutional guarantee of fair hearing, the judge should recuse himself where circumstances give rise to a reasonable perception of prejudice.
The lawyers also requested the court to order that the criminal case file be returned to the Chief Judge of Kwara State for reassignment to another judge for hearing and determination.
They maintained that granting the application would enhance public confidence in the administration of justice and would not occasion any prejudice to the prosecution.
Following proceedings on Tuesday, Justice Ajayi adjourned the matter until July 21, 2026, for hearing of the application seeking his recusal.
The criminal case was instituted by the Kwara State Government against Saraki and Ahmed over matters relating to the Offa robbery incident.
The court is yet to determine the merits of the recusal application.

THE KALE KAWU IDEAS MANIFESTO: 5 DAYS TO RETURNING HOPE TO COMMON KWARANS
In five days, a new conversation will begin in Kwara.
It is not about big grammar. It is not about big figures on paper. It is about the ideas of Kale Kawu ideas that put the common Kwaran at the center of governance.
For a long time, Kwarans have watched allocations increase, yet poverty has also increased. The money comes, but it does not reach the people. Kale Kawu says this must change.
His manifesto is built on a simple belief: government must return to the people.
First, he believes that power belongs to the people. Government should not be run by a small cabal. Every kobo spent must be able to answer one question: how does this help the market woman, the farmer, the okada rider, the student and the jobless youth?
Second, he believes Local Governments must work again. The era where Local Government funds are controlled from one office while the communities suffer must end. If money is meant for Asa, Ilorin West, Ilorin East, Ilorin South and Moro, the people of those LGAs must see it in their roads, their water, their clinics and their schools.
Third, he believes in real empowerment. Not audio empowerment that ends at the camera. But empowerment that gives people tools, capital and skills to stand on their own.
Fourth, he believes in listening leadership. Kwara does not need a rubber-stamp assembly or a rubber-stamp governance style. It needs a leader who sits with traditional rulers, with elders, with women and youths, and takes decisions with them, not for them.
In five days, these ideas will be presented as a manifesto. But to many Kwarans, they are already a hope that Kwara can work for everyone, not just a few. – at Ilorin, Nigeria
