Super grateful for all of the community organizations who came out today to the first McMaster Pediatric Mental Health Fair. We all learned so much @mac_peds about the services available in our community that we can refer to in order to improve patient care!! ☺️

Today is World Mental Health Day. Pediatric patients are suffering more than ever from mental health. The @CanPaedSociety has a great quick letter you can easily send to your local MP to advocate for equitable increased mental health supports. cps.ca/en/advocacy-defense/s…

@mac_peds annual staff vs. resident soccer game. Takeaways: If you’re going to pull a hammy (@FelipeFa94), do it in front of 5 Emerg docs. @AlimPardhan @JhanAtMac @elliemacbain @SurekaPav @JeffPernica

A terminal cancer diagnosis has changed the arc of my career. I'm winding down the lab, but VERY excited to launch a fundraising campaign to raise money for young scholars to participate in the Research Society on Alcoholism Annual Meeting.

I would give (almost) anything to be studying in a coffee shop instead of at home.

Having worked several years as a doctor for people experiencing homelessness, I can say with certainty, that while medical care is important, what people really need is housing.

So much trauma and so much pain when people with no home have to move....some went to shelter and some to camp elsewhere. Please: if you see folks in a tent, instead of picking up the phone to complain, be kind and remember - we are all neighbours here. We are all doing our best.

Last year, Alec Dunn & I collaborated on a wound care guide particular to harm reduction settings. I've received a number of msgs over the past few weeks from people who have found it really useful. Here's a link, in case you will find it useful too. issuu.com/nextdistro/docs/wo…

Essential reading 👇🏽
Anti-Homeless offences in municipal by-laws are common in many Canadian cities. They can reproduce the most unjust and racist aspects of archaic vagrancy law. See our mapping project and the 365 neo-vagrancy offences now in place. covid19-phi.ca/mapTwo.html

Dear Health Organizations, Thanks for your expressions of ‘solidarity' online. But this isn't just a social media trend. Now, you must act through anti-racism, not tokenism. Be accountable through change, not performative allyship. Sincerely, BIPOC Health Workers Everywhere

Given that racism is literally killing people in our communities, it is alarming how little we talk about it in medicine. Race is a major determinant of health. Health is majorly determined by politics. Delivering anti-racist healthcare is a political act rooted in justice.
