New development in the Kim Soo Hyun case: police have referred the late Kim Sae Ron's mother and a "fake aunt" to the prosecution. ⚖️
Kim Soo Hyun's agency GOLDMEDALIST shared on October 26 that police found grounds for the complaints it filed over false allegations against the actor. The two face charges of defamation by stating false facts, distributing footage, and attempted coercion. Attorney Boo Ji Seok, who represents the bereaved family, and YouTuber Kwon Young Chan were also referred, suspected of leading two press conferences that used false and manipulated materials.
"We are deeply grateful to the investigative authorities for uncovering the reality of the crimes and the participants involved based on vast amounts of data and objective evidence," the agency said.
A referral means police found sufficient grounds to suspect a crime. It is not a conviction, and the prosecution will now decide how to proceed. Separately, the family's complaint against Kim Soo Hyun under the Child Welfare Act was not sent to prosecutors in July due to insufficient evidence.
The dispute began in March 2025 with allegations that the two dated while Kim Sae Ron was a minor, which Kim Soo Hyun's side has denied.
