🇸🇾 Israeli forces shot dead a Syrian man with Down syndrome, during an overnight raid Thursday on the village of Jamla in southern Syria’s Daraa province. Residents told the Associated Press that Muath Salama al-Baeer was unarmed and had offered no resistance. His parents had died, and he lived with his sisters. Syrian outlet Enab Baladi reported that roughly 15 Israeli military vehicles entered the village, searched homes and deployed snipers on residential rooftops. Its correspondent said Israeli soldiers shot Muath as he walked through the village. The Israeli military claimed its soldiers fired after a “suspect” continued approaching them, allegedly posing a threat. Israel has illegally occupied a buffer zone in southern Syria since December 2024, but Jamla lies outside that zone. Syrian authorities condemned the killing and demanded an end to Israel’s repeated incursions.
