Underscored by lots of hyper local policy fights and bad faith arguments is the fact that the Minneapolis and regional bike network has improved immensely over the past 10 years. The various one-off projects are being knit together into a real network that outsiders rave about!

Great to be out knocking for Rick Olson today in Shakopee! Rick is one of our endorsed candidates this cycle trying to flip a State Senate seat. A big tent is a powerful tent!
Replying to @TCNewLibs
In the State Senate, Rick Olson is running in SD54 (Scott County), a seat that is trending blue but needs a candidate who can reach Trump voters. Rick has worked in law, economics, agriculture and education and is ready to broaden the DFL tent as a former Republican.

We are proud to support Anders Folk (@folkforhennepin) for Hennepin County Attorney. From safety on our transit systems to youth intervention, we believe an experienced prosecutor like Anders is the best choice to lead the county.

Plenty of work to do to prepare cities for driverless cars and all sorts of new transportation technology on the horizon. None of it involves mandating a person in the vehicle. Good to see the veto upheld.

A DFL candidate for Governor being ahead of the state speaker of the House on who is better to handle fraud is straight up wizardry. Klobbering will continue.
New Minnesota Poll: Amy Klobuchar has a commanding 50-41% lead over Lisa Demuth in the governor’s race. Slightly more voters said they trust Klobuchar, the Democrat, to tackle the state’s fraud crisis than Demuth. startribune.com/minnesota-po…

Twin Cities New Liberals condemn the apparent use of the DoJ to target Rep. Omar. This admin has repeatedly singled out Omar and now, weeks before an election, agents have searched her home. The DoJ must operate independently, not as a tool for intimidating political opponents.
Breaking news: Federal authorities searched the D.C. home of Rep. Ilhan Omar on Monday morning, intensifying long-standing immigration-related accusations from Republicans regarding the nation’s first Somali American lawmaker. wapo.st/4zuN9Kp

It is long past time for @MetroTransitMN to fare gate its grade separated stops. Lake Street/Midtown and both airport stations are well situated for fare gates!
Cracking down on fare evasion reduces crime on the subway significantly. If we want the subway to be safe and clean, farebeaters need to face consequences, says @emmma_camp_. Subscribe to Free Expression: on.wsj.com/4rxSOMW

Some pushback to our Waymo statement implied that we were using the safety argument as a way to oppose labor. Nobody is required to support AV’s, but the self reported numbers here on assaults from Uber/Lyft show that it’s clearly an issue for drivers/passengers alike.

There are lots of challenges to be solved from AV’s, and those should be taken seriously by cities and the state. That said, if folks want to defend the status quo and say no person would feel safer in a car by themselves, the data conflicts with that.

This is both blatantly untrue and absolves the real villains, Tommie grads, from the havoc they have wrought on society.

The Minneapolis City Council will hear public testimony today on Autonomous Vehicle regulations that require a driver behind the wheel at all times. Our statement on the opportunity AV’s present for road safety and the misguided mandate this ordinance proposes.

Every author of this regulation will claim they care about traffic safety and yet all of them want to make a technology that will make it easier to take dangerous drivers off the road, does not discriminate on location/identity and makes it easier to not own a car… impossible.

It’s really hard to understand how folks from cultures that are obsessed with sports and have a cuisine associated with a variety of spices might find home in Texas but I guess we will never know 🤷‍♂️
I heard UT graduation this year looked like this. I didn’t believe it. The problem is now obviously far worse than anyone imagined.

This is both bad policy on the merits designed to block AV’s from operating in the city and exactly what you would do if you wanted to get preempted by the state legislature. City Council did this with Uber/Lyft and looks like it will do it again.

It is true that if you either do not believe Waymo’s are safer than human drivers or want a driver to help you with something, then that is a case for the comparative advantage of Uber/Lyft drivers, not a case for banning Waymo!

There is already a bus driver shortage and a real challenge to provide late night, 24-hour service. If autonomous busses are used for shifts drivers don’t want to take, that seems like a huge win!

To give the pro housing coalition (and begrudgingly the League of MN Cities) credit, they got language last session to a point where the League was neutral. The challenge remains that any Governor will need to go after local control, and as a result override legislative allies.
Step 1 - clearly identify the problem: shortage of 100,000 homes Step 2 - throw up your hands and surrender to cries of "local control" and "we all do better when it stays the same for me"
