I have never cared about the Ballon D'or, that's not a secret. But the players clearly do. And for that reason, I am happy for Harry Kane. This guy was seen as a joke for a decade, and yet he kept working and never lost his focus. Tottenham failed him for a decade. Not backing Pochetino, sacking Mourinho 6 days before a final, then the Conte meltdown. When he moved to Bayern, Leverkusen had a wonder season. Everyone mocked him so much for not winning trophies, despite him clearly being the best player in his teams and always being a hard-working "team first" player. Yet, he never stopped working for his team. Pochetino needed him to be the best striker in the league, Kane was that. Mourinho needed him to be the best playmaking striker in the world, Kane was that. Kompany needed him to be a goalscorer that somehow could also play the Busquets role, Kane was that. The ultimate team player, who took all the blame from the media yet never complained, never ran away. At 31 years old, he was a trophy virgin and the social media's big joke. At 33, he is recognized – and fairly so – as the best player in the world. Kane said in his speech: "I want to be an example of working hard, of believing in yourself." He's one of the few world class players who can say that and actually mean it. Sometimes the good guys win.
