For Ukraine, the ability to hit military targets far beyond the front line is becoming a cornerstone of its national defense. The strategic logic is simple: Russia cannot expect to attack Ukrainian cities and infrastructure while keeping its own war machine safely beyond reach. And unlike diplomatic promises, Ukraine’s long-range weapons do not depend on another country’s political approval to remain effective. Zelenskyy’s message is that Ukraine’s independence must be protected not only by international commitments, but by its own ability to make future Russian aggression costly. Putin wanted Ukraine defenseless. Instead, he has given it every reason to become capable of striking back.
