*Spoilers for Nikke chapter 50!*
Having recently played through that part, I really gotta say I don’t understand where this sentiment is coming from.
If we’re talking about amount of screen time, then that’s a shallow measurement of “usefulness” and could be applied to a lot of squads.
If we’re talking about performance in battle, let’s break down the feats:
-Grave, in a MASS PRODUCED BODY, is able to dodge and protect Cinderella against hundreds, if not thousands of beams being fired by the Queen, these same beams were just pinning down the Counters, White Knight, Goddess, ANOTHER QUEEN, Nayuta, and were obliterating The Wings of Victory. In fact, they may have even killed all these people were it not for Old Tales tanking all of this. Not to mention Grave takes many of these attacks trying to save Cinderella. Again, in a generic body.
-Cinderella is deemed so powerful a threat that the Queen deems taking her out more important than killing humanity.
-Cinderella, without even being a Queen, tanks THREE fully powered blasts that could destroy a mountain with ease and obliterate a city. Two of these are in her base form, not even transformed.
-Cinderella, when transformed, matches the Queen blow for blow for a while. She has no massive power core, no insane quantity of Dark Matter. It’s all her, and she matches that firepower.
-Cinderella also deals the blow that turns the tide of battle. She hits this insanely overpowered creation so hard that it rewrites the Queen’s priorities to start shifting on recovery.
-Hansel and Gretel follow up and hit the Queen so hard afterwards that she really does need to stop everything to try and recover. They even tank a full salvo trying to save Siren and come out relatively intact.
-Siren not only, blocks an insane amount of firepower without even being a Heretic (she is a large part of the reason Cinderella can even survive as long as she does), she freezes over 10,000 upgraded Raptures and THE QUEEN all at once. Again, she’s not even a Heretic. Without her, the tide of Raptures would have killed most of the Nikkes fighting them/made the main fighting force exhausted, and the Queen would have been able to recover the statue.
Yes, most of them took insanely hard hits and are in critical condition, but let’s not pretend that they were just utterly wrecked without contributing much to the fight. They were quite literally the reason everyone was able to win.
Do I personally wish they had a happier outcome and got to work with the main cast more/meet their heroes? Of course, that part was disappointing, but they literally hard carried the fight to the point that everyone was even able to get to the Queen in the first place.
Old Tales earned their stripes and then some.
