A salary cap suppresses wages. Having the most money guarantees nothing. The Mets stink. The Yankees last world series was during The Obama Administration. Most pro sports owners don't care about winning a title. They care about making money and suppressing wages ensures that.

The old slower style was a good pace for 82 games. Slow, methodical, slowly probing the defense and figuring out ways to win.
The NBA is way more physical, fast and demanding now. It's smarter, faster, more chaotic.
It's more in the 36-40 game schedule range, like soccer. A physically demanding 2-hour slugfest, once or twice a week.
