Article and class coming on Unai Emery and his tactics against Man City at the weekend. Strong principles with fine tactical details. Cash can prepare to jump onto Doku as McGinn covers the half-space pass. This also allows Alysson to remain high. Releasing this today...

Watch McGinn constantly checking the half space is covered by his positioning or talking to Alysson to do so.

We need more keepers with this distribution to break the man-to-man pressing meta.

There's something not quite right with the balance of an Anderson, Enzo and Cherki midfield. Out of possession, Anderson thinks and presses like an eight, Enzo like a ten, and Cherki offers little out of possession. It was a big part of PSG's dominance in the first half, and Villa went through (and over) them consistently at the weekend. Gonna have to be tweaks in there against stronger opponents.

They have lost MacPhee, but their set plays are still well thought out. Rare to see a player holding the depth taking on the shot. Big chance for Villa.

Rarely do you see this. The manager applauded. Players get the abuse. Shame the board can't do that walk.

Carrick will go following the game. The fans are gonna sing his name on the way out. His selection of Bruno for the squad and then not using him speaks volumes. He's sent his own personal message. Neville is right: the defence is not good enough, but the recent recruitment in midfield and forwards? They will need another revamp there. From top to bottom, and years later, following Rangnick's 'open heart surgery' statement, it's still needed. Bournemouth 👏

Bournemouth showing the pass to Heaven and he’s giving it away every time. Very few progressive options to be fair to the lad. It should be more.

Tactically and individually, Bournemouth look a better outfit. It looks inevitable for Carrick. The performance has offered nothing. He will need Bruno to come on work something. They look lost in all phases.

Good start Bournemouth. They need to take advantage of this. Man United don’t have that transition threat you associate with them. Mount and Dalot as an attacking pairing down the left and Yoro\Diallo on the right. They will have to grind this out to get a result.

It’s the type of game, and he’s the type of character that he can come on and win it today. For someone who has done so well for the club, it’ll be interesting to see the reaction he gets today. Right decision though in my opinion.
EXC: Bruno Fernandes dropped to the bench by Michael Carrick for Bournemouth visit. #MUFC head coach aiming to turn around team’s results in a pivotal moment for him. Fernandes, out of form, criticised tactics in Como. Details ⬇️ nytimes.com/athletic/7722277…

More side pressure from the weekend. The difference in a goal and potentially the game.

Look beyond the results. De Zerbi is a top coach, this was always going to turn suggested on performances. Chelsea. It’s going to be hit and miss. Not much in this game at all and I thought Chelsea would have enough individual ability to take it. Getting on the right side of tight games is what leads to maintaining top positions.

Maddison is playing with Lacroix. Recognises he’s ready to jump and drops deeper. Playing either side of the CM’s too which again, causes Chelsea an issue. Really intelligent player.

Unai Emery, what a manager! 👏🏻👏🏻 Just keeps churning it out, doesn’t he? Knows his philosophy inside out, as do the staff around him. Even when key players leave, there’s such clarity in his methodology that he can bring new ones in and get them up to speed relatively quickly, providing they’ve got the right attitude. And don’t underestimate the amount of detail, repetition and classroom work that goes into making that happen! One of his biggest strengths is getting absolutely everything out of his players. Properly empties the tank! It’s not always about having the best players. Sometimes it’s about being the best at getting everything out of the players you’ve got. Top, top coach! 👌🏻
