People are using “Race” today in a very different manner from how the term was used 16th-19th century. Blacks Law defines race homogeneously. It’s not this big catch all that is conflated today. It’s best to define terms based on what they meant and how they were used then.

One other point about African descent. If used without locating a grandparent and the state moves forward based on it, it will be challenged because the United States already classified it as a race of people. They never classified Europeans as a race of people. Therefore, only Africans can be racist to Europeans. They knew exactly how to protect themselves in law.
