I'm PUMPED for No Rest for the Wicked 1.0. I always imagined Path of Exile 2 would strike a balance between PoE1 and No Rest for the Wicked. That hasn't happened… so I'll be covering BOTH. And NRFTW has had some HIDDEN news lately that deserves WAY more attention. Here's what you might've missed ⤵️

All these people developing games that actually look sick REALLY make me want to take a stab at it sometime soon. I've lots of ideas swirling in my head, and it's worth a shot, right? With all these tools available, it just might be the time to work at it for 30 mins/day...

Reading the gospel of John for the first time in the Bible and I've my new favorite single verse in the New Testament, John 1:5: "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." What a POWERFUL line. Literally began crying when I heard it first.

"Where am I, and what is the time?" he said aloud to the ceiling. "In the House of Elrond, and it is ten o'clock in the morning." said a voice. "It is the morning of October the twenty-fourth, if you want to know." Image: 'Frodo Waking in Rivendell' – Carol Phenix #TolkienSociety #Tolkien

I see a lot of people expressing shock and sadness over BioWare shutting down. And I get it. But here's the uncomfortable truth: The BioWare that made Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR, Dragon Age: Origins and the original Mass Effect trilogy had largely ceased to exist long before yesterday's announcement. BioWare's decline began around the time the doctors left and much like what happened at Blizzard, most of the original talent responsible for building those legendary franchises had moved on years ago. What remained was the brand. The IP. Basically just the name on the building. But a studio's name doesn't make great games. Insanely talented people do. And that's the lesson our industry somehow keeps refusing to learn. The people who built those studios, who poured their blood, sweat and tears into establishing their creative identities were the actual assets. Their experience, their taste, their leadership, their ability to recognize what made a game special in the first place was always the thing that mattered, not the brand. You can't simply replace those people, keep the logo on the door and expect the magic to continue. Yet, that's precisely what publishers have been doing for the past 10-20 years. They've spent billions acquiring studios and IPs, seemingly under the assumption that the creative output would continue regardless of who was actually making the games. And when the original talent inevitably left, the remaining teams were expected to fill shoes that were often impossibly large, without necessarily having the experience, leadership or creative vision required to do so. And... the results speak for themselves. I think we'll eventually look back at the COVID-era acquisition frenzy as one of the most destructive periods in the history of our industry. Publishers were buying studios left and right, paying absurd valuations mostly just to secure IPs... and developers were often all too happy to cash out. At Moon Studios, we got quite a bit of crap for refusing to sell when seemingly everyone else was getting acquired. I remember telling our team back then that I'd seen this movie before. The exact same thing happened in the 90s, when EA went on its acquisition spree. Studios were bought, their founders and creative leaders gradually lost the freedom to make the games they believed in, the original talent became frustrated and left and eventually the studios all became a Ship of Theseus. History doesn't repeat itself perfectly, but it sure as hell rhymes, and that's exactly why I never wanted Moon to end up in that position. And I don't think we're even halfway through the ultimate fallout of the latest acquisition frenzy. There's going to be a very rude awakening for quite a few publishers when they discover that the studios they acquired for billions are worth a fraction of what they paid. And that shoving ideology down peoples throats ultimately came at a cost that they didn't quite grasp. They didn't actually buy the creative vision, the institutional knowledge or the culture responsible for making those studios successful. They bought the names, the buildings, the IPs and whatever teams happened to be there at the time. But those things don't matter at all. You can buy a studio. You can buy its IP. You can even buy its entire back catalogue. But you can't buy the magic that made those games special in the first place. And the sooner our industry understands that, the better.

Haven’t played a Bioware game since Neverwinter Nights 2. NWN1 was my favorite game as a child. Wish companies still made games like those.

Is Path of Exile 2 the same game today it was on December 6, 2024 when it launched into early access? No. Not even close. Leading up to PoE 2 1.0, I am doing a COMPLETE retrospective series of each patch, beginning with 0.1, going over: - What the devs added - How the players responded - How the devs responded to the players - The overarching story of the expansion The tale of 0.1? GGG responded to feedback FAST and the fundamentals of PoE 2 began to change almost instantly... ⬇️

Not to exaggerate, but No Rest For the Wicked's latest showcase looked absolutely breathtaking. Honestly, it's what I imagined PoE 2 would initially be combat and build-wise. Hoping with 1.0 there's a TON more enemies/bosses. December 2026 for PoE 2 and March 2027 for Wicked.

23 days between today and the biggest reveals for PATH OF EXILE 2 yet, Exilecon 2026! Above everything else, I am most excited to see the culmination of PoE 2's story and campaign. I know we're likely to receive glimpses of it at the event and that hypes me up beyond belief. New boss fights, new areas, secrets revealed about the final acts, finally seeing how Lumerius will impact the game alongside Oriana who has been leading us along all this time... We're going to ORIATH but what is there and what's after that? How much of the lore book has changed since they shipped it in November 2024? I'd reckon A TON IS DIFFERENT. Is there something that YOU are personally pumped about? Let me know and follow me for ALL THE POE2 UPDATES at Exilecon and beyond ;)

Kinda cracked that GGG is getting this out before Path of Exile 2's 1.0 launch. Glad everyone playing PoE 1 shall be eating well, wonder what 3.30 will hold and if any of it shall bleed into PoE 2 at the end of the day...

Path of Exile 2 1.0 is in 60 days and Exilecon is just 3 weeks out. We discussed what is CONFIRMED to come in 1.0 last time, let's look at what's been promised. Remember, promises CAN be broken. Some of this, like seamless controller swap has been promised since 0.1. See 🔽
