Gaza caught between drowning in blood and drowning in winter rain

Menschen in ihr zuhause ein,

Can we find 10 supporters for Jamal + Layla?
The elderly couple took in 60 (!) people last night who's tents were flooded.
Jamal is preparing for surgery and provides for a household of 14.

Israel did not create the rainstorms hitting Gaza. But it made sure that the people there have no shelter.
Gaza’s first winter storm hit this weekend. Within 12 hours at least 70,000 tents had flooded.
The UN, EU and World Bank put housing destroyed or damaged at 76.6%. The UN’s housing rapporteur says 92%. He called his report “Domicide.”
OCHA, November 5: Gaza needs about 121,000 tents. The UN has about 2,800 inside. Timber is “being rejected by Israeli authorities.” The Shelter Cluster says tents and tarpaulins are “limited to one day per week.” 5,000 mobile homes from Egypt and Qatar are sitting at the Egyptian border, per the Times of Israel.
Gaza Municipality says what’s left of the drainage can carry about 20% of the rain “under the best circumstances.”
COGAT says more than 20,000 tents went in during one month and cites “genuine security concerns that Hamas could exploit certain components.” Even on its numbers, that’s a fraction of what the UN says is needed.
The Israeli policy is that Gazans should have no shelter. It makes them more liklely to die or leave.

I feel lost among torn pieces of fabric, the mud, and the floodwaters. My family is desperately pleading with you to donate and help us survive.

Everything has been taken from our brothers and sisters in Gaza, and yet they still give more to help one another than the entire outside world. 🇵🇸💔

Hello Olive, last night people were drowning in the middle of the tents. Everything was submerged, even mattresses, clothes, and food. I hosted more than 60 people in my humble home. It was a complete catastrophe; I can't even describe it. But I was able to help with what I ha

I admit that I completely broke down today. I cried uncontrollably. I couldn’t hold myself together after witnessing what I saw with my own eyes.
Today, we went to film a journalistic report inside the displacement tents along the seashore. I swear, what we witnessed was beyond what any human being should have to endure.
I saw men crying bitterly. Men I had never seen cry when they lost their children or when their homes were destroyed. Today, I saw them crying because they were powerless to do the simplest thing: protect their children from the water and the cold.
We spoke to families who told us they had spent the entire night carrying their children in their arms after floodwater covered the floors of their tents and soaked their mattresses. They couldn’t find a single dry place to put their children. They couldn’t even give them a few hours of sleep.
I saw children no older than five, without proper clothes to protect them from the cold, without heating, and without a dry place to sleep. Children shivering inside tents that cannot keep out the rain, protect them from the wind, or provide even the most basic sense of safety.
What more must happen for this world to act? How much more suffering must people endure before someone remembers that they are human beings?
I am sick of this world. I am sick of its hypocrisy and empty slogans. To hell with a world that talks endlessly about human rights while leaving children to drown inside their tents. To hell with everyone who has witnessed this suffering and chosen silence, and to hell with the governments and institutions that have the power to act but continue to turn their backs on us.

Worried all day about #VirtualFlotilla friends in Gaza. They were exhausted before and spent a night trying to keep loved ones safe + dry.
Sadly this waterspout reminds us, that our motto "We live under the same sky" also means many around the world will experience more flooding.
"Imagine if this vortex had passed over Gaza instead of the sea”
Even if it was a bad day to think of clouds, we live under the same sky.
Can we find 5 people to support Fadel?

Waterspouts are correlated with the surface water temperature. A study by scientists from the Uni of Barcelona, found that they are more likely when the sea surface is very warm. Currently the sea surface in the region of Sicily is 2.5 - 3°C warmer than 1990-2020 average.
Humans can be so incredibly cruel.

Misery in Gaza. Support a family, stand by people who are suffering, as if it were us.

Families in Gaza are drowning right now. This is exactly what I repeatedly warned about over the past few days. I published dozens of posts, raising the alarm about this day and the rain that would flood tents and make people's suffering even worse.
Now, everything we feared is happening. Tents are flooded, families are drowning in rainwater, and damaged buildings are at risk of collapsing on top of those living inside.
I cannot describe the extent of this abandonment. No words are enough to capture this scene. We warned, we cried out, and we pleaded, but families were left alone to face this disaster. It is heartbreaking and deeply disappointing.

This is truly awful. Another winter of cold wet misery.
Start the reconstruction, get the mobile homes in.
Cold winter rain is pouring into Gaza’s tents, and no one gives a damn.
There was no sleeping last night in Gaza. You watch the water creep across the floor until it reaches the bedding. Where the hell are you supposed to sleep now? The tent you’ve called home for three years is coming down around you. You’re shaking with cold, trying to think of one thing you can still do to keep yourself dry.
And the rest of the world is still debating “the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.” Celebrities are making money off Gaza. There’s always another book, another film, another speaking engagement. They get paid. They go home. You’re still in that fucking tent.
And this world has the nerve to say it cares.
