Southcrest has now won eight of the last 10 TAPPS 2A boys titles, while Shiner St. Paul has captured 12 of the last 14 TAPPS 2A crowns.
Southcrest Christian junior Lucas Higgins won his first state title after finishing third a year ago. Xander Gonzales, a freshman, was second with junior teammate Caleb Johnson in third (and who was fourth overall last year.)
A pair of freshman took the top two spots in the girls race as Hallettsville Sacred Heart's Caroline Lemonds won the race by five seconds over Houston Second Bapist University Model's McKinley Rocco.
Baytown Christian Academy sophomore Paityn Carrier finished third overall for the second straight year, doing so in 2A this year instead of 1A in 2025.
Skylar Mozisek led Shiner St. Paul with her third consecutive All-State performance, finishing fourth overall after being in third and seventh the last two seasons.

CROSS COUNTRY | Amarillo Holy Cross Catholic wins its first TAPPS boys state championship knocking off two-time defending state titlist, Spring Founders Christian School.
The Falcons, though, in the girls race defended their 2025 title, lowering their point total from 66 to 39.
Austin Arete Hall sophomore Desmond Marino put a cap on a great season with the decisive win in the boys race. It is Marino's second podium finish in three years. He won the Honor Charter Athletic League (HCAL) varsity state meet as an eighth grader for Valor South Austin two years ago and was fourth last year at the Texas State Homeschool Championship.
Marino defeated Amarillo Ascension Academy senior Roman Martinez, who was runnerup a year ago in TAPPS 2A to current University of Alabama freshman Ethan Locke (Valor Prep).
In the girls race, Houston Second Baptist University Model-Cypress sophomore Brielle Bryant defended her title from a year ago -- defeating three former state champions.
Austin Arete Hall Natalie Arbuckle, a junior, was in the top two of a varsity state championship race for the fifth consecutive year. She won the Honor Charter Athletic League state championship three times in 2022, 2023 and 2025 as a seventh, eighth and tenth grader for Valor South Austin and was also a runner-up in HCAL in 2024.
Sherman Texoma Christian senior Hannah Murphy, who was second to Bryant last year, was the TAPPS 1A champion in 2024, and Greenville Christian School sophomore Lindsay Boss was last year's TAPPS 2A overall winner. Boss, and her sister, Lauren, were sixth and seventh today.
