🏅 Bravery Award | Courage Beyond the Call of Duty
An inspiring tale of courage, selflessness and extraordinary presence of mind!
Shri Vithal Aglawe, Excavator Operator, and Shri Amol Waddare, Dumper Operator, both from Bhatadi OCM, Chandrapur Area, Western Coalfields Limited, have been honoured with the prestigious Bravery Award for their exemplary act of courage in saving three precious lives.
During a dangerous occurrence involving an irruption of silt and water at Bhatadi OCM on the night of 12th March 2026, three employees were trapped in the sump area. Displaying remarkable courage and disregard for personal risk, both employees immediately stepped forward and successfully rescued their trapped colleagues using a lifebuoy ring and safety rope.
Their selfless action, presence of mind and commitment to saving human lives exemplify the highest values of humanity and teamwork.

Shri Sarikonda Trinadh, Chief Manager (Mining), Quality Control Department, WCL Headquarters, Nagpur, has been conferred the prestigious Special Contribution Award in recognition of his exceptional vigilance, professional integrity and exemplary commitment to safeguarding organisational interests.
Through meticulous scrutiny and technical investigation, he proactively detected fraudulent manipulation of coal referee sample results by a third-party sampling agency, exposing serious irregularities in the coal quality assurance system.
His timely intervention helped prevent potential financial losses exceeding ₹32 crore to WCL, besides triggering corrective and precautionary measures across Coal India subsidiaries. His efforts also strengthened transparency, accountability and credibility in the coal sampling and quality assurance mechanism.
This remarkable contribution exemplifies the highest standards of professional ethics, vigilance and devotion to duty.

Shri Rajiv Singh, GM (E&T), and Shri Romesh Verma, Sr. Manager (E&T), WCL Headquarters, Nagpur, have been recognised with the prestigious N. Kumar Innovation Award for their innovative contribution towards modernising mine operations through an Industry 4.0-based IIoT Remote Pump Monitoring System.
Developed under an R&D initiative, the system enables 24×7 real-time monitoring of critical pump parameters across four opencast mines through a centralised dashboard. Equipped with smart sensors and wireless LoRa technology, it facilitates predictive maintenance, energy monitoring, early fault detection and emergency response.
This pioneering initiative enhances operational efficiency, reduces equipment downtime and production losses, minimises manpower exposure to safety risks and enables data-driven decision-making. Its scalable design offers the potential for deployment across all WCL mines.

🏆 Excellence in Leadership | Best Area General Manager Award
A moment of immense pride for WCL !
Shri Rakesh Prasad, Area General Manager, Majri Area, has been conferred the prestigious Best Area GM Award by Shri B. Sairam, Chairman, Coal India Limited, during the celebration of CIL Foundation Day at Kolkata.
Under his focused leadership and result-oriented approach, Majri Area achieved remarkable operational and financial milestones in FY 2025–26, including 112.71% of the coal production target, 120.89% of the OBR target and approximately 155% of the profit target. The Area also recorded 11% year-on-year growth in profitability, significant improvement in coal quality, enhanced dispatch efficiency and reduced underloading costs.
His commitment to operational excellence, teamwork, safety, statutory compliance and sustainable growth has set new benchmarks in performance.

52nd Coal India Foundation Day Celebrated with Enthusiasm and Grandeur at WCL
WCL celebrated the 52nd Coal India Foundation Day with great enthusiasm and fervour, commemorating the glorious legacy and significant contribution of the coal industry towards nation-building.
The celebrations commenced with a Foundation Day Rally, flagged off at WCL Headquarters by Shri Bikram Ghosh, Director (Finance & HR), Shri Sandeep Paranjape, Director (Technical – Operations), and Shri Ajay Madhukar Mhetre, Chief Vigilance Officer. Officers, employees and their family members participated enthusiastically. Thereafter, Shri Bikram Ghosh hoisted the Coal India flag amidst the rendition of Vande Mataram and the Coal India Corporate Song.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Ghosh extended his greetings to the WCL family and highlighted Coal India's pivotal role in ensuring national energy security and economic growth. Highlighting WCL's performance as on 31st October 2026, he informed that WCL has registered historic growth and coal production of WCL has reached 32.96 million tonnes (102.5% of the YTD target), OBR stood at 207.97 million cubic metres (104.6%) and coal offtake reached 41.58 million tonnes (108.9%), registering respective year-on-year growth of 15.9%, 35.7% and 25.6%. He also highlighted WCL's strong H1 financial performance, with Profit Before Tax of ₹1,352.26 crore (during April – September, 2026), registering 76.29% growth. Appreciating the achievement of seven 5-Star and twenty five 4-Star rated mines, he reiterated the importance of safety and sustainable mining.
He further highlighted the Coal-to-SNG project at Majri, exploration of rare earth elements and WCL's 320 MW solar energy target. Emphasising CSR, environmental conservation and diversification, he called upon Team WCL to pursue operational excellence, innovation and sustainable growth. He expressed confidence that collective commitment and teamwork would enable WCL to scale new heights and contribute significantly to nation-building.

WCL मुख्यालय में भारत के लौह पुरुष सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल की जयंती के अवसर पर राष्ट्रीय एकता दिवस गरिमामय एवं उत्साहपूर्ण वातावरण में मनाया गया। इस अवसर पर अध्यक्ष-सह-प्रबंध निदेशक डॉ. हेमंत शरद पांडे ने निदेशक (तकनीकी संचालन) एवं मुख्य सतर्कता अधिकारी श्री अजय मधुकर म्हेत्रे की उपस्थिति में अधिकारियों एवं कर्मचारियों को राष्ट्रीय एकता दिवस की शपथ दिलाई। सभी उपस्थितों ने राष्ट्र की एकता, अखंडता एवं सुरक्षा को बनाए रखने तथा देश की एकजुटता को और अधिक सुदृढ़ करने के प्रति अपनी प्रतिबद्धता दोहराई।

इस अवसर पर सेवानिवृत्त अधिकारियों एवं कर्मचारियों की सुविधा को ध्यान में रखते हुए उनके मेडिकल जीवन प्रमाणपत्र ऑनलाइन जमा करने हेतु ‘कल्याण सेतु’ एप्लीकेशन का शुभारंभ भी किया गया। इस डिजिटल पहल के माध्यम से अब सेवानिवृत्त अधिकारी एवं कर्मचारी अपना मेडिकल जीवन प्रमाणपत्र ऑनलाइन जमा कर सकेंगे। यह पहल WCL की अपने सेवानिवृत्त कर्मियों के प्रति प्रतिबद्धता को दर्शाने के साथ-साथ डिजिटल सुविधाओं के विस्तार एवं बेहतर सेवा वितरण की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है। इस अवसर पर बड़ी संख्या में सेवानिवृत्त कर्मी उपस्थित रहे ।
