This year is the 25th anniversary of my report establishing the concept of community cohesion to tackle ‘parallel lives’, the stereotypes and fear of the ‘other’. Some good work over the years, but still no sign of the long term capacity needed for learning to live together
No doubt a helpful scheme, but when are we going to tackle the 100 ‘peace wall’ over 20 feet high and 25 miles in length, that have been in place for many decades? These protect the real ‘no go areas’ to which we have chosen to turn as blind eye.

Exactly! This is now a fundamental concern for our education system. Faith schools in their present form, devoid of local interest and reason, now require reform
Replying to @TedCantle
If our education system is intended to foster equality, belonging and community cohesion, why should a child's opportunity to attend their local school depend on which Christian church their family attends?
This is an extraordinary decision, and again brings into question the way in which faiths are privileged even to the extent that they are allowed to discriminate against local children with no account of cohesion
The Court of Appeal has upheld a judgement ruling faith schools can have admissions policies which disadvantage children based on race.
The exemptions to the Equality Act which enable this are nothing short of scandalous.

Perhaps also recognition by Boomers (inc me) that working age generations producing fewer children, cannot fairly be asked to bear the full burden of oldies who live much longer into retirement. Inter-generational fairness is now a key issue

81 years ago, 50 nations came together in San Francisco with a vision for peace, prosperity and human rights. A vision that endures today. ✍️
This is very worrying, the @NatSecSoc concerns are legitimate and a more robust approach to religious charities must now be taken
Proposed new powers for the charity regulator will fail to adequately tackle misogyny and homophobia promoted by religious charities.

If Musk is responsible for weakening Ukraine's defenses at this critical time, his businesses need to be excluded from any critical infrastructure in Europe. Not as a sanction, but as self-protection.
This is a great move towards ending social media groupthink. But it needs to be the default position and algorithms should only be activated by the user, not pushed by the social networks bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwr7…
If Starlink is now being used as a political weapon, democracies must begin to disengage from it entirely and move to new European independent systems. It will take time but independence is vital news.sky.com/share/12541713
Sadly the case for many towns and cities, local newspapers (and radio) are disappearing and local news is only via unchecked social media. We need a new financial regime to give responsible local journalism a chance and protect democratic principles

Panel discussion about Free Speech with @Moreincommon_ and L.iberty. As an issue Free Speech is now much higher on our social agenda generally. However, do we have the civic capacity and infrastructure to support citizens express themselves lawfully? @Jonathan_Hinder
This is where the attack on democracy has to stop - all other journalists must now support their colleagues and refuse to attend the White House until the ban is lifted bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c6e3…

Charity rules need to change - and debar all religious organisations unless they are able to demonstrate that ‘public benefit’ means all of the public, rather than partial or sectarian interests
The rise of Christian nationalism has only highlighted the kind of harmful dogma being promoted under the guise of religion in our charity sector - and effectively state-subsidised.

Hopefully temperatures can be brought back down, but not likely if it depends a new found ‘aggressive’ approach. Time to consider the untested but now essential geo-engineering technology. There is now no real alternative
UNEP published Limiting Overshoot, its first report on the likelihood and consequences of exceeding 1.5°C of global warming. It finds that global temperature rise is set to cross 1.5°C, likely within the next few years, pushing climate risks to increasingly dangerous levels.
The report also finds that temperatures can still be brought back down in line with the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement. Doing so will require aggressive emissions cuts, a major scale-up of responsible carbon removal — ultimately moving beyond net zero to net-negative emissions — and urgent action on adaptation and resilience to address climate impacts.

This alone justifies the switch from fossil fuels to renewables.
Accelerating clean energy and ending waste burning will lead to healthier lives, cleaner skies, more prosperous economies, and a safer climate for billions.
