Avoid accepting anecdotal experiences as concrete fact.
If someone says “I traveled to this place and it was overrated,” view it as a single perspective from a single person and nothing more.
There are a variety of factors that went into to that conclusion, ranging from where they stayed to who they were with. Maybe the AC didn’t work in their hotel. Maybe their girlfriend was nagging the whole time. Maybe their business was crumbling and they were an emotional wreck.
This applies to the majority of advice you hear on the internet. Every opinion is colored through the lens of the person experiencing it. Don’t let others deter you from following an inclination or desire.
Even if you arrive at a similar conclusion, at least you did so on your own. A fuller perspective was gained from it. You have to make your own mistakes and internalize experiences first hand.
Otherwise you’ll be an amalgamation of the conclusions of others, with no unique stories and a shallow relationship with yourself.
