I’m not sure what has been more controversial over the last 24hrs between…
1) Making Gherkins cheaper
2) Pedestrianising Oxford Street
3) The iPhone Duo screen CrackGate
I love X, there’s passion on all fronts 😅
What a pickle this Budget is turning into. Rather than raising the personal allowance (which has not been meaningfully increased for many years), instead we've got cheaper Gherkins.
The very thing most people remove from their burger is now cheaper - whilst people can't afford to heat their homes 😅

Reasons NOT to buy the iPhone Duo (according to x) ✍️
❌ You can’t drop it off a building without it breaking
❌ You can’t pour a handful of corse sand directly into its hinge without it breaking
❌ If you stab the inside screen with a knife more than twice it just breaks
❌ If you bend it backwards with so much force it makes you physically shake, it breaks
❌ Some app developers haven’t redesigned their apps in the last 5 days
❌ If I get one of the tiny fraction which are already broken, it doesn’t matter if Apple replace it immediately, under warranty, you should still absolutely not buy it just in case.
What else am I missing?
There’s a 2 year warranty on iPhone duo, if it breaks because of a manufacturing defect, it’ll be replaced. Don’t see the big deal 🤷♂️
General airport lounges are a broken model... you now get lounge access with any old package holiday. It's no longer a "luxury" (aside from airlines own lounges where they are strictly accessible on status/ticket class). It's definitely no longer of value to Amex (or similar) card holders.
Revolut just launched UK personal loans: £2k–£25k at personalised rates from 6.9% to 29.3%.
29.3% is credit-card territory.
Given Revolut’s user base (younger, often secondary account, thinner credit files), the low-rate tier is going to be a small club. That means many young people will be agreeing to (likely) gamified loan offers at an extortionate rate.
This is no doubt a money maker for Revolut ahead of IPO, but it’s got a Klarna feel to it?
UK founders: what’s the one thing the Budget could do next week that would actually change how you invest or hire?
(Be honest.)
AI spend fears just hit the market again this week. Markets are finally asking what most founders already know: how much of this actually turns into cashflow?
The real money isn’t in the mega-cap build-out - it’s in the boring layer that shows ROI in 90 days.
What are you building or buying?
After the first couple of weeks back, engagement on X seems to have fallen off a cliff? Has there been a change in algorithm, or is it me?
I don’t mind Andy Burnham going on Gogglebox. People constantly say politicians should be more like the rest of us, then complain the second one does something ordinary like watching TV with their mate (for charity, too).
The “he shouldn’t have time” argument is also weak. A couple of hours of filming is almost certainly less time than he’s now spending fielding media questions about it.
Although… I might (like a politician) change my mind if the upcoming budget doesn’t support businesses and entrepreneurs!
Thankfully I've just had 6 bottles of Bollinger delivered... I'll add it to my emergency preparedness kit
I love the Bending Spoons business model - especially whilst SaaS is out of favour in the equity world.
They buy digital products that already have proven product-market fit and cash flow, then run them through a shared high-talent operating platform, optimise the hell out of monetisation and efficiency, then reinvest the cash flow into the next deal.
It's genius and at the moment, it's a big leverage play!
