LB DEVELOPMENT | OFF-BALL LINEBACKERS MUST KNOW HOW TO PASS RUSH
Whether you’re blitzing off the edge or attacking through the A and B gaps, knowing how to rush the passer is an important skill for every off-ball linebacker.
Remember, you’re the athlete in space. Use your speed, quickness, and athleticism to your advantage.
You don’t have to overpower every offensive lineman. Learn how to use finesse moves, attack their angles, and create leverage with space.
Work your one-two jab, get the offensive lineman off balance, dip your shoulder, bend around the hoop, and go get the quarterback!
Pass rushing is about angles, timing, technique, and explosiveness.
At DUB Athletic, we teach our linebackers how to use their athletic ability to win matchups against bigger offensive linemen.

DB DEVELOPMENT | PATIENCE IN PRESS MAN COVERAGE
One of the biggest mistakes cornerbacks make in press coverage is opening their hips too early.
The receiver has to get through YOU to get downfield. Don’t panic!
Just because a receiver attacks your inside or outside shoulder doesn’t mean you have to immediately open up and run.
If you have inside leverage, protect it and stay patient.
The longer that receiver spends dancing at the line of scrimmage, the better it is for you. Remember, the quarterback is working against a pass rush. He needs a clean snap, protection from his offensive line, and his receiver to get open.
You have more help than you think.
At DUB Athletic, we teach our DBs to use a patient mirror step, keep their feet underneath their frame, and transition efficiently through the kick step.
The magic happens in the kick step.
Watch our athlete in this clip. When the receiver declares vertically, he uses his kick step to cut off the angle and meet the receiver upfield instead of immediately turning and chasing.
This allows him to stay in position to defend quick routes like slants, hitches, and short in-breaking or out-breaking routes while still preparing for the vertical threat.
Great press coverage isn’t about moving first. It’s about moving correctly.

DB DEVELOPMENT | OFF-COVERAGE MOVEMENT
Most defenses play some form of off coverage, which means defensive backs must learn how to play in space.
Whether you’re a corner or safety, playing in space requires understanding your leverage, down and distance, receiver splits, alignments, and offensive formations.
The No. 1 priority in off coverage is protecting your leverage.
In this clip, the defender is playing inside leverage, protecting against inside-breaking routes while keeping his outside foot ready to drive upfield if the receiver threatens vertically.
Notice how both DBs transition when the receiver declares upfield. They lean toward the receiver to close space and reduce separation.
One of the biggest mistakes DBs make is transitioning upfield while leaving too much room between themselves and the receiver.
That extra space gives quarterbacks more room to place the football and receivers more opportunities to make difficult catches.
The goal is simple: protect your leverage, recognize the route, and close space as efficiently as possible.
At DUB Athletic, we don’t just teach DBs how to move. We teach them WHY they’re moving and how their positioning affects the play.

The truth about sports performance is that people will always promote whatever is “new” or “in,” regardless of its quality, effectiveness, or standards. When it fails to deliver, they simply move on to the next trend.
The coaches who prioritize education, sound principles, and genuinely doing right by their athletes don’t have to chase trends. They stay committed to the process, maintain their standards, and continue making a meaningful difference for the people they serve and the people that matter.
I can’t wait until Aaron retires. He’s gonna be on podcasts going nuclear on the league. 😭😭
#Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers was asked about the Jalen Hurts situation:
He says he doesn’t know enough about it but has never seen eye-to-eye with the NFL’s lead medical person, so he’s not surprised.
Coaches when you pull up to the star studded Lewisville vs Flowermound game don’t be surprised when you see a safety for Flowermound #14 making clutch plays all over the field
He’s been doing it all season!
I’ll quote this tweet with his highlights after the game this weekend
