These poorly prison wardens need to understand that the Federal High Court is a public institution, not their private property. Their apparent lack of understanding of the role of the media is deeply troubling. Journalists have a legitimate duty to report on court proceedings and activities around the courthouse. Prison officials must respect press freedom and stop acting as though they have absolute control over media coverage of people entering and leaving the court.

PRESS RELEASE
AAC BADAGRY CONDEMNS ATTACK ON PARTY MEMBER DOCUMENTING FIELD ENGAGEMENT AT ITA HASSAN JUNCTION; CALLS FOR INVESTIGATION
For Immediate Release
Badagry, Lagos State | 25 October 2026
The African Action Congress (AAC), Badagry, condemns the attack on members of its field engagement team at Ita Hassan Junction, between Mosafejo and Aradagun, during the party’s Field Engagement and Awareness Drive on Saturday, 24 October 2026.
According to accounts from members of the team, five individuals confronted and attacked members of the AAC delegation as they passed through the area while conducting the engagement and recording footage. The incident occurred near a location where an APC banner was displayed.
The team identifies one individual known as Ahmed as the person who initiated the confrontation by shouting that the AAC members should leave the location and stop waving the AAC flag near the APC banner. Ahmed also allegedly pushed members of the team.
Another individual known as Anthony threw a punch at Emmanuel Zinsu, an AAC member who was using his mobile phone to record the engagement.
Emmanuel Zinsu reportedly sustained an injury to his neck and was bleeding following the incident. The AAC team has clear video footage documenting the incident, and two eyewitnesses have been identified to assist the investigation. Medical documentation concerning the injury is being obtained.
AAC Badagry calls on the Nigeria Police Force and the relevant divisional and area authorities to investigate the incident promptly, examine the video footage, obtain witness statements, establish the identities of those involved, and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
Political disagreement or partisan affiliation must not be used to justify violence or intimidation. All political parties and their members must be able to conduct lawful political activities peacefully and without fear.
AAC Badagry remains committed to peaceful political participation and will cooperate with the relevant authorities by providing available footage, witness information, and medical documentation when obtained.
We urge all political actors and their supporters to reject violence and respect the safety and rights of others.
Signed,
AAC Badagry
