Pond Cottage did look lovely too but I enjoyed the solitude of Swiss, and being high up is quite special. That's why the Bird Cage appeals...there's so many I want to visit though...! I think my special celebration will be in the other one in London, fingers crossed.

An entertaining post Annunziata but let's wait and see. I'm happy that the owner has been so generous and glad that one of my favourite restaurants won't be closing any time soon. I'm not generally keen on NT food but a scone & tea in historic surroundings? Yes please.

I believe it's nothing to worry about. I was more concerned that one day someone would buy it up and change it for good, in the mistaken belief that it would make more money if it was changed. National Trust owning but not running the restaurant I believe will be a good thing.

Good news indeed. Your piece on the tablecloth changing was spot on. I loved visiting the restaurant & long may it prosper.

A mid week piece from me, on the @FT newspages. In an act of extraordinary generosity the owner of the building which houses Rules, London’s oldest restaurant, has donated it to the @nationaltrust ft.com/content/1386e75c-d292…

this one is also going on my 'must stay' list. Thank you Tracy, what a wonderful view! It looks like a tree house in the pic.
