14 diyas, for the ancestors; choddo prodeep, choddo shaak, for Bhoot Chaturdashi, the night before Kali Pujo.
These rituals take on more meaning over time - we saw my Thakurmar, Didima and my Ma light the lamps, but perhaps I didn't fully realise then what a comfort it is to honour generations past, those who came before you, all those whom you miss and thank.
14 shaak (not shown but cheerfully consumed); we found palok, bathua, laal shaak, kalmi, shorshe, polya pata, ol shaak and several others but smuggled dhania in as the fourteenth one. It's green! It's good for you!
These are the parts of Diwali I love. Not the chocolate bombs, sutli bombs, Lakshmi firecrackers, not the pollution, not the ostentatious display of endless fireworks where you can't tell one from another.
Diwali in 1980s-1990s India used to be beautiful. The soft light of diyas and candles, lots of mithai, potluck dinners, new clothes, red hibiscus carefully gathered for Kali Pujo prayers, and a freshly whitewashed house... Fireworks were typically a few phuljharis and anars, some daring rockets or charkhas, but the rest of the festival was devoted to these small, meaningful rituals.
🎇 Happy (almost) Diwali 🎇🪔🪔🪔, everyone.

Husband who said wife "disappeared" now admits cutting her body with a saw
📍 Virginia, USA
Naresh Bhatt (39) told a Virginia court that his wife, Mamta Kafle Bhatt (28), a nurse, died by suicide.
He claims he found her unconscious next to an open insecticide packet. He admitted to dismembering her body.
She went missing on July 27, 2024. He was charged with first-degree murder, concealing her body and defiling it.
So impressed with @my_mokobara!
Bought a handbag a year ago, began using it for work but it started to show signs of wear and tear in 10 mnths. Was two weeks out of their warranty period but decided I'd call them to see if they can help.
Seamless service on call with an actual human (shoutout to a very warm Rashmi who was empowered to make decisions right there on the call that allowed for the issue to be resolved.)
That was at 10 am. By 6 pm, as promised, I got an email with a resolution I'm very happy with.

The study in question is available on their site. In it they claim to have shown that the device tracks with a surrogate (model estimate) of brain flow better than scalp flow.. sounds counter-intuitive? It very much is.. because the model they used does not pass muster..

So, I went through the pre-prints and the Temple claim that it tracks brain blood flow does not hold water. @deepigoyal went on and on about brain flow and they even call their measure Temple-BF. Should've called it Temple BS instead.

We have taken note of your cut-copy-paste response.
I don’t wish to spoil your Diwali weekend. On Monday, I will share a detailed response with the entire nation.
Until then, enjoy the festivities. Happy Diwali!
