There is sterling difference between Boko Haram, Lakurawa, Ansaruh, and Bandits. Though, all belong to at least one Islamic creed, but do they follow the true teachings of Islam? That is the answer you should be looking for. Boko Haram, Lakurawa, ISWAP, Ansaru, openly claimed to belong one particular Islamic creed, they believe what they are doing is a religious duty command by Allah, that they can kill or be killed in process, that’s is the path to Jannat. Whether what they do is right or wrong, it is for you, myself, and every other Muslim to reflect and find the source of their doctrine. They have slight distinction which is mostly on leadership hierarchy: who will give the order, and who should follow it. Everything they have done, they claimed responsibility, with audacity, without ambiguity. On the other hand: bandits are criminals, terrorizing us, but not in the name of any Islamic creed. A large number of them believe they were marginalized, and the only they think they can make money is by kidnapping people and demand ransom. And there is cogent reason they flourish in the North, because in some part, killing is being idolised, celebrated and even encouraged. Majority of bandits can’t even recite Surah Al-Fatiha, not talk of translating or interpreting it. This is why Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, a Sunni scholar, always opine that they should be rehabilitated, educated, and reintegrated into the society (I don’t hold that position. I want to see them dead, all of them). In short: BH/Lakurawa/ISWAP/Ansaruh, believe their action is religious, and there is reward. Bandits/Kidnappers, believe their action is revenge, and economic benefit.
They say bandits are Wahabis. When you show them photos of many of them being Darika adherents, they go mute. They call them Lakurawa, but many of them celebrate Maulud. But there is this uncommon audacity to punch Izala.
