We’ve reached that point @TALLADEGA where Junior Johnson, Chief, Gary Nelson … SOMEBODY … would’ve slipped one of the independents a new set of tires to unintentionally … INTENTIONALLY … bring out out a caution.

I finally found the photo I was thinking of Steve Waid with Junior Johnson and Tom Higgins. It was from NASCAR Winston Cup Illustrated's December 1999 issue. @TheSceneVault
One of my favorite photos of Steve Waid was him sitting next to Junior Johnson at a book signing with a big smile on his face, not minding how many people wanted to talk to Junior. It captured how much of a consummate professional he was while also having a wonderful sense of humor and humility.
Steve never had to be the story to tell the history of racing so perfectly, whether in his articles, on TV, or on @TheSceneVault with @RickHouston73. His work will remain inseparable from any retelling of its past.
David Ifft would be at the top of ANYBODY'S list of all-time greatest story tellers!
Replying to @TheSceneVault
@TheSceneVault I just listened to it for the third time. I think David Ifft is at the top of my list of story tellers.
I love passion projects like this … imagine having a ticket stub from each of @therichardpetty’s 200 wins!
This collection is crazy, he's just 8 tickets short of having one from each of the 2,632 games of Cal Ripken Jr's "Iron Man" streak 🤯

I’ve downsized quite a bit, but I couldn’t resist this little trinket. It’s a program from Bobby Allison’s 1971 Bowman Gray win … his infamous long-missing 85th victory.
I love it!
When you're catching a morning flight to @TALLADEGA, you dress accordingly!

I started work at The Alleghany News … my first “real” job in journalism … 34 years ago today. WOW …

I love the @TheSceneVault. I’m on episode 190… the third time through

On July 29, I started with Episode 1. Last night, I finished Episode 100. @TheSceneVault interviewed Mike Helton, a titan of NASCAR, despite never getting behind the wheel. I can name several interviews in the first 100 from folks who have passed on. The oral history is priceless
Something NASA does very well is preserve its own history. Included in the @NASAhistory archives are literally hundreds of oral histories from astronauts to flight controllers to ... you name it.
Countless times, I referred to those oral histories to come up with questions for those I was to interview for Wheels Stop and Go, Flight! And in those cases where the people interviewed had already passed on, those quotes went directly into the manuscript.
That's what I've come to consider The Scene Vault. In addition to the scanned Scene archive, we collect and preserve oral histories from those who were there, in the trenches of the garage, week in and week out.

The podcast, along with my friend that is as close as a brother, @jktulbert, have rekindled my love of racing. I am one of those that quit watching. But the last few months of getting back into the sport have been fun.

There’s a @rickmast22 uniform still available on eBay. Let’s make a deal. I’ll trade this used Gunsmoke script, signed by the cast (minus Miss Kitty) and co-stars including Loretta Swit from M*A*S*H, even up for the uniform.
When you get a text from Tim Brewer saying he's got more stories to tell, you ... make ... it ... happen.
Incredibly blessed to see @mercyme @BartMillard @jeremycamp @thesamwesley @timtimmons tonight in Charlotte.
Thank you to @DeborahEPrice for the meet-and-greet opportunity with MercyMe.
Full disclosure … chemo kicked my behind this cycle, but I couldn’t back out in my friend Mickey, who bought me a ticket specifically because of my cancer journey.
Turns out, every single song from every artist spoke deeply to my soul.
It began with the slow, painful death of newspapers brought on by MASSIVE overhead and the immediacy of the Internet. It’s far cheaper and more timely, to the point where anybody with a dream and desire can take part.
I can’t help but wonder how many of today’s press corps have full medical insurance, not to mention expense accounts to get them to and from the races they cover.
With all due respect to the men and woman media who cover the sport, I’m genuinely curious why the large media companies have deserted @NASCAR. The @keselowski news is biggest story in recent memory and he’s in the media center surrounded by non affiliated youtube channels.
