One common error that new screen printers make is to use a large portion of half tones as substitutions for spot colors to save on printing costs. But using half tones for these purposes can significantly reduce the quality and appeal of a printed design.

Screen printing is known by various names, such as "silk printing" or "silk screen printing." This is because the screens used to be almost exclusively made out of silk. Today, most mesh screens are made out of polyester instead of silk.
Glitter and shimmer prints use screens that have lower mesh counts like the 40 and the 86 mesh because their inks have particles that are simply unable to properly pass through higher mesh screens.
How old is the art of screen printing? Very old. In fact, the very first screen prints are dated to China’s Song Dynasty that was in existence more than 1,000 years ago. But interestingly enough, the art of screen printing did not reach European countries until the late 1700s.
