As electricity demand grows and energy policy becomes increasingly polarized, we have refocused our work to better meet the moment.
Our 2025 Impact Report highlights these changes and provides an overview of our strategy moving forward.

Americans heating their homes with heating oil will pay up to $1,664 more this year, as Trump's war in Iran drives up fuel costs.
The average American household is shouldering an extra $765 in higher gas prices since Trump's war began.
Here's a sentence you won’t read often...
Steven Mnuchin and Janet Yellen agree: BAAJA is good for the country.
NEWS: 19 FORMER ECONOMIC AND NATIONAL SECURITY LEADERS ENDORSE THE BIPARTISAN PERMITTING REFORM BILL
Today, a group of former Cabinet members and White House principals across seven Democratic and Republican administrations sent a letter calling on Congress to pass BAAJA. Here are the signatories:
Janet YELLEN, Michael R. POMPEO, Steven T. MNUCHIN, Leon E. PANETTA, Timothy F. GEITHNER, Henry M. PAULSON, Jr., Robert E. RUBIN, Stephen MIRAN, Jared BERNSTEIN, Tyler GOODSPEED, Jason FURMAN, Glenn HUBBARD, Laura D’Andrea TYSON, Michael J. BOSKIN, Jeffrey ZIENTS, Jake SULLIVAN, Brian DEESE, Larry KUDLOW, Allan B. HUBBARD
Key highlights from the letter:
1. “We are not building infrastructure fast enough to remain globally competitive… The median time for a new power plant to move from an interconnection request to commercial operation has more than doubled, from less than two years for projects built between 2000 and 2007 to more than four years for projects built between 2018 and 2024.
2. China has built more high-voltage transmission in the last fifteen years than the U.S. has built in all of its history... In 2024, China accounted for 31.5% of global knowledge- and technology-intensive manufacturing value added, compared with 20.7% for the United States.
3. Federally funded or permitted projects require NEPA review, but private projects often do not, creating a threat of failure precisely where the government is trying to be proactive, strategic, and engaged.
4. A project that spends years awaiting approval must continue carrying development and financing costs while remaining exposed to rising input costs. The IEA reports that prices for utility-scale transformers increased 26% in 2024, while lead times for some transformers have stretched as long as six years.
5. Mining projects also face tremendous uncertainty: a 2026 study by researchers at the Colorado School of Mines found that permitting for modern mining projects takes an average of 5.5 years, rising to 8.9 years for contested projects. The U.S. currently has the second-longest mine development timeline in the world.
6. The Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act is the most significant bipartisan legislative effort that Congress has undertaken in decades to tackle these challenges.
7. BAAJA addresses key constraints stifling American industry by requiring interregional transmission planning, strengthening the federal backstop for nationally significant transmission lines, and creating a faster, more predictable process for connecting new generation to the grid.
8. BAAJA also makes permits more durable by imposing tighter timelines for litigation and limiting frivolous lawsuits that can halt projects indefinitely, while preserving community input and judicial review of substantive agency decisions.”
The letter was organized by @arnabdatta321 on behalf of @IFP and covered exclusively by the WSJ this morning.

We strongly disagree with the Beacon Coalition’s endorsement of Rogers. We had no knowledge of these plans and are not funding this work. We have been clear since the end of the Democratic primary and said it repeatedly: we believe El-Sayed must win this race because Donald Trump cannot have another rubber stamp in the Senate. Third Way stands united behind our Senate Democratic nominees. A Democratic Senate majority is an essential check on Trump, and we are counting on El-Sayed to hand Mike Rogers his second defeat.

NEW: Trump has cut 30-40% percent of EIA’s analytical staff via DOGE.
Industry leaders, oil traders, researchers, associations, and former administrators are worried that @EIAgov can no longer be trusted to produce reliable data.

Today, one in six American households is behind on utility bills, and families are paying too much to keep the lights on.
Congress should expand its energy assistance program to ALL working families.
Trump's federal cuts to manufacturing and innovation will eliminate 390,000 jobs per year on average, totaling 6.2 million job-years lost to state economies.
An untapped resource beneath our feet could help lower energy costs for American industry, if developed properly.
In our latest, we outline three steps the federal government can take to help bring geologic hydrogen to market.

Over $82 billion in investment and 110,000 jobs from the IRA-era are gone today, according to @BGAlliance.

The permitting deal will make it easier for the US to build clean energy faster and cheaper. That's enough reason to pass it. linkedin.com/pulse/senate-pe…

🚨HUGE NEWS:
The Build America Caucus is launching an ambitious, bipartisan agenda focused on improving Americans’ lives by making it easier to build the things we need.
It just went live on our website for you to read. Here’s why you should: 🧵

Unlike gas pipelines, transmission lines are so much more hampered by the current permitting system.
BAAJA evens the playing field.
What climate and energy legislation should follow BAAJA?
@jsfreed tells @jaeporeon that DC should focus next on an enforceable data center framework and a modern manufacturing base.
“The overall proposal is more of a win to build than a bargain.”
@jsfreed spoke with @jaeporeon to offer his initial thoughts on BAAJA.

If we want cheaper energy, we need permitting reform.
If we want to force data centers to pay their fair share and then some, we need permitting reform.
If we want to build out clean energy and the jobs that come with it, we need permitting reform.
And all of that reform is in our Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act.
Let’s get this done.
NEW: Senate passes the MORE American Fuel Act
Authored by @SenMarkKelly and @SenLummis, the bill would accelerate the production of enriched uranium without jeopardizing NRC safety standards.

There is no perfect political moment, and every year of delay is another year of energy kept off the grid.
Permitting reform needs to happen now.

First in @PunchbowlNews midday: The House Democratic Blue Dog Coalition is endorsing the Senate’s bipartisan permitting bill. The group of 10 moderate Dems tells me "Congress must clear the logjam and move permitting reform forward, not punt the issue to a future Congress"
“it's too bad we have to compromise to get things done in congress”
