New: you think you know Proton, but you really don't. I spoke to 8 current employees, got Slack chats, meeting audio, and an AI manifesto written by its CTO. “That’s bullshit and loser thinking,” Yen wrote. “Stop thinking always of how to be slower, and focus more on how to be faster.” CEO Andy Yen critiques AI in public. But inside, he is pushing everyone to use AI, even those with security concerns 404media.co/manifestos-fear-…

Phosphor now supports qualitative palettes. It includes my own presets that are mathematically designed to maximize visual differentiation, as well as common palettes from ColorBrewer and Tableau. And each is editable, shareable, and exportable.

🦆 Announcing DuckDB 2.0.0 LTS “Cinnamon Teal” We are proud to release DuckDB 2.0.0, named after the cinnamon teal (Spatula cyanoptera), a striking reddish-brown duck found in the western Americas. 🌎 DuckDB 2.0.0 is the biggest DuckDB feature release so far. It ships a polished version of the Quack protocol, which turns DuckDB into a full-fledged server. It improves performance and lowers costs through supporting asynchronous I/O, a first-class VARIANT type, and a dedicated “agent mode”. It also empowers extension developers with a new SQL parser that allows adding new statements, clauses, and keywords, a new API to build on, and a new mechanism to distribute extensions more easily. In our announcement blog post, we summarize the highlights and then walk through the key changes and give guidance on how to migrate to 2.0. For the complete release notes, see the release page on GitHub. duckdb.org/2026/10/21/announ… #DuckDB

🚨 A Netflix engineer just open-sourced the fix for the most expensive problem in AI: wasted tokens It's called Headroom, and it might be the smartest fix to high token usage Your agent reads a 10,000-token log file to find one error. You paid for all 10,000 tokens. The answer needed 1,200. Headroom sits between your agent and the LLM and compresses everything before the model sees it. JSON, code, logs, RAG chunks, each gets its own specialized compressor. And it's reversible: the originals stay on your machine, so nothing is lost. The results speak for themselves: → Up to 95% fewer tokens → Same accuracy on benchmarks → Zero changes to your code Setup takes one minute: 1. pip install "headroom-ai[all]" 2. headroom wrap claude Done. Works with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and anything OpenAI-compatible. Everything runs locally, fully open source. The cheapest token is the one you never send. 🔗 Github repo: github.com/headroomlabs-ai/h… So, are you compressing your context, or just paying the bill?

From JSON Strings to Typed Columns 🧵 🏛️ DuckDB’s `read_json` turns JSON files into tables. It reads through part of the data to work out a schema, then gives you typed columns. However, a lot of JSON does not come as files. It comes as a text column: event payloads in a Postgres table, API responses stored by an ingestion job, a `metadata` column in a CSV export. In this blog post, we infer a schema from such a column, adjust it, and turn the column into typed columns, without first writing the data to a file. The best part: we get the result directly in SQL. Read more: duckdb.org/2026/10/16/json-t… #DuckDB #JSON

Hugging Face is where much of the machine learning community publishes and finds its datasets, while DuckDB is the in-process analytical database that queries files like CSV and Parquet directly, with no server or warehouse to install or run. 🤗 🦆 Did you know that, since #DuckDB v0.10.3 (~May 2024), you can point a SELECT at a dataset on the Hugging Face Hub, using the DuckDB `hf://` protocol, and query it, without downloading it first? This blog post covers how that integration works and the use cases it fits: duckdb.org/2026/09/25/huggin…

DuckDB Now Ships inside dbt v2 🦆 📦 dbt is the tool many data teams use to manage their SQL transformations: you write each model as a `SELECT` statement, and dbt works out the order to run them in from the references between models, builds the resulting tables and views in your database, and can test them along the way. dbt v2, which runs on the new Rust-based Fusion engine, is the first dbt release that ships with a built-in DuckDB adapter. In this blog post, @GeertjanW walks you through how to set it up, DuckLake and Iceberg catalogs, querying dbt’s Parquet metadata with DuckDB, plus other v2 features that matter to DuckDB users, including migrating to dbt v2. Dive in here: duckdb.org/2026/09/22/dbt-fu…

100% open source. 0 € al mes. os dejo el repo abajo.

‼️ Google Search is now hiding where its results lead. Links point to google[.]com/goto?, followed by an opaque string only Google can resolve. You can no longer inspect a destination before clicking it, or copy the address out of the page. Every click now travels through Google first.
