Season tickets have gone from coveted things you passed down to future generations to the biggest scam in sports. All because teams got greedy and kept pushing up the price. The market has spoken and said it isn’t worth the “face value” anymore.
In years of having #njdevils season tickets, I have never seen the secondary market so bad
2 years ago I got $200 each for my Rangers game
Past game? $130 TOTAL
Prices for a beer are more expensive than to buy a ticket for Tuesday against Colorado

Interesting that almost every form of social activity has dropped over the last 30 years except going to concerts. That has increased and probably at a very high record level. Their value rose probably because the alternatives have weakened.

This is what happens when legislators work with a monopoly to ban resale. Said monopoly then closes and controls the market and prices skyrocket, once competition is removed. This was predictable and legislators were warned ahead of time this would be the result.
Something legitimately awful is happening with @TicketmasterCA ticket prices in Canada. Like this is so out of control.
Standard admission.
Not floor.
Not vip.
Not resale.
Standard. Admission.
A few weeks ago those same smashing pumpkins tickets were hundreds less.

The decline of beauty in everyday life shows up in even the smallest things, like tickets, where we’ve let our obsession with efficiency win out over personality and artistic expression.
Like the ticket from the Guggenheim Museum in New York, which I've shared in the first photo. It's an iconic building that could have so easily inspired a beautiful ticket design, but they opted for the most economical option instead.
Each example of this decline isn't a big deal, but the world becomes less charming and enchanted when people stop caring about craftsmanship.
For some alternatives, scroll through the photos. The second one shows old Japanese train tickets, the third one shows an old circus ticket, and the fourth one is a World Series ticket from 2002, which felt magical when I got to hold one as an eight-year-old.
So yes, there’s definitely been a decline. And maybe we’re okay with it! But it’s worth remembering that this decline isn’t inevitable. There is another way.

The secondary ticket market stays one step ahead of the announcements.
US Open Mixed Doubles prices started moving before the field was confirmed, then surged again once the draw was revealed.
Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz move markets.

Major cheat code for life: Assume good things are still ahead. You are not behind. You are not too late. You are not disqualified by your past. One new season can change the entire story. Keep showing up with belief. The best chapters are often written after the hardest ones.

After spending more than two months range-bound between $7,000 and $9,000, the World Cup Final get-in broke out to $12,100 in late June.
That entire move has now round-tripped.
With eight days until the match, the get-in is back to $6,700, down roughly 45% from the peak and testing the same floor that held for more than two months.

What makes no sense to me is when sports teams announce “100th consecutive sellout” and I look at primary tickets and there are still hundreds available

Why did nearly all prices for World Cup matches fall in the past week?
A massive supply of tickets was injected into the secondary market right when prices reached their peak

Many World Cup matches started showing signs of increased demand a few days before the tournament opener.
USA vs Turkey is the perfect example.
On June 7, four days before the first match, the market hit a price and supply inflection point.
Secondary supply began compressing while price started moving up.
That inverse action is the tell.
USA vs Turkey now has the largest seven day price move of any World Cup match so far, up 123.1%.
