A busy day out chatting to travellers and rail campaigners on the Lakes Line with Libby Bateman and Will Clark, then door knocking in Oxenholme with Doug Rathbone before a bracing run around the dark and misty lanes of south Westmorland.

Are criminals being deterred from targeting Britain's farms? 🚓
Former Liberal Democrat leader @timfarron and NFU livestock chair Clare Wise @wise_cwcw join Farmers Guardian's @FGRachaelBrown to discuss the devastating impact of rural crime, the challenges facing police and concerns over the Government's proposed policing reforms.

People living in rural communities who rely on heating oil have seen their energy bills soar in the past year.
Today's Budget failed to introduce a price cap on heating oil to support these households with the cost of living.
I'll keep fighting for them.

❌ Another Budget, but no U-turn on the family farm tax.
Despite continued pressure from the farming industry, the Government has announced no further changes to the inheritance tax reforms affecting family farms.
The rules, which came into force in April, continue to raise concerns about succession and the future of farming businesses.
The Chancellor also announced measures on fuel duty and fertiliser tariffs, but little more direct support for agriculture.
What do you make of today's Budget?

I’m sit in the Commons listening to the budget, some thoughts as they occur:🧵
Help with energy bills ✅ , but no sign of a cap for those who are off grid and rely on heating oil (mostly in rural areas) ❌
Delighted to hear the Chancellor just announce that self-employed dads will get two weeks of paid paternity leave. #Budget2026
Hmmm. So 20% of our water leaks before it even gets to our homes due to negligent underinvestment from profiteering water company owners (the kind of people probably on Rupert’s Christmas card list)…but let’s blame immigrants. This is arch wazzockry of the highest order…

The Lib Dems have the best plan to fix our broken water system.
Why doesn’t Andy Burnham use it?
The Tories and Labour have created a farm payment scheme which actively disincentivises the production of food.
This is utter madness.
We are failing our farmers and we are failing our people as we sleepwalk into no longer being able to guarantee that we can feed our country.
